Default nomograph please explain how to use

Looking around google I have a basic Idea how to use the nomograph that is in my map section of the game , however Iam still scratching my head .. Trying also to learn 4 bearings method . In a recent interception using a formula from sh3 . I am still not mastering a conclusive bdu report and getting there . doing more research and taking real nav seriously and playing at 100% , Thanks for your suggestions and pointing in the right direction

Hiya,

You check your speed, check on the nomo, you see your speed against a time/distance

Easiest way to imagine it is like a car

You're doing 60mph, in 60mins you will of covered 60 miles, so at 30mins time you will have done 30mins, 15mins only 15miles

Eg : you need to get ahead of a convoy, you have a good idea which area you need to intercept, use your nomo to see time/distance at your speed to get ahead and lay in wait, this depends on how accurate you are at figuring their speed

Not got a printout of nomo, but you can half say 14knts to get 7knts etc if it makes it easier to figure things out

But all a nomo does is show at a set speed how far in distance and time taken you will have gone

The nomograph is used to calculate distance-time-speed problems. (in the case of navigational problems and these games. A 'nomograph' or 'nomogram' (wiki) is actually a generic name of graphical tools to calculate mathematical relationships by drawing simple lines)

Draw a diagonal line across all 3 of the nomograph scales. Drag the ends to make it intercept any 2 known scales out of 3 (time, distance or speed). The other unknown value that satisfies distance=speed*time is crossed by the line at the proper mark also. You must know 2 of the 3, or else it's useless.

I don't know how the nomograph looks in SH5 exactly, so I cannot help in what units it displays. If somebody can point me to an image I can help further.

Not just at a set speed. You can work with it to find any unknown among of the 3 scales. If you know the distance and time, you can find the speed. Or if you know distance and speed, you can find the time it takes. Or if you know the speed and time, you can find the distance travelled.

Hello Pices .. Iwill post a s/s of the nomo on my map display as soon as I get into the game , perhaps you can give a explanation on how to use this nomo in game . thanks ahead

Having asked Google Images for nomographs in SH5 I only get the one shown in this video. At this time point he starts to calculate the speed of the target based on a movement of 4km over 10 minutes: by lining up across the said marks, the result is 13 knots as shown by the line intersecting the left scale at this mark.

Hi Pisces

Enjoyed the video, very useful when you can see what is happening, better than any explanation.
