Default Shark takes woman in New South Wales

How terribly tragic

Quote:
A woman has been killed by a shark while swimming off a popular beach in Australia's New South Wales.

Christine Armstrong, 63, was swimming between the wharf and the beach in Tathra village when she was attacked.

Police said her husband saw the shape of a shark which looked between three and four metres long, reports said.

Not sure how far this is from TarJaks place of abode but a website for the beach states it is a protected area.

Quote:
Tathra Beach is located east of Bega and is a protected beach for surf and board riding. Below the waters, diving, snorkelling and fishing possibilities are endless. Fur seals and Fairy penguins from the colony at Montague Island often frequent the waters and are willing to let you be a part of their underwater world.

Evidently the sharks mustn't be aware.

I don't think Sharks can read signs.
Uneducated fish are dangerous and people are stupid to expect otherwise.

Looks like it.

Quote:
She was swimming with a group of people early on Thursday morning, but had turned back from the group and was on her own when she was attacked, police said.

Mrs Armstrong's family said in a statement that she had been swimming at Tathra Beach for 14 years.

There's the problem. Sharks hunt in the morning and evening.

Problem number 2.

I don't know for the Southern Hemisphere, but Northern, Sept-November is when whitey is active hunting seals. Surf at your own peril.

When sharks are about, do not go in the water. Just because it's never happened before and never happened to you.....

Luckily, we generally only get Basking Sharks up here, though Porbeagles have been sighted.

I'm planning another shark dive trip in a few weeks. I'll post up some pictures.

Tiredness may have set in then.

If you can guarantee a quick and clean death then I'd like to go out via nature, seems better to be food for a greater animal than shoved in the ground for near eternity, or being burned and polluting the atmosphere.

Herein is a common problem with many folks way of thinking, that "It", in whatever context you want to assign to the word, "only happens to other people".

Yep, and it's an inescapable fact that one day you will become 'the other person' to someone else.
