The Great Internet Crusade

Ok...you people know me and my bad internet connection

NOT ANYMORE

Monday...we are supposed to be upgrading to the fastest available internet for the area.

We shall see if it lives up to it's expectations.

However, it is just another satellite company with more satellites and a higher data limit. Which will be better than what I have even if it still won't support heavy online gaming like you guys.

You should switch your IP to Starfleet. They'll give you hyper fast broadband internet service over their sub-space communication relay satellites. Their coverage area is quite large, just about the entire Alpha Quadrant. Except for the Bryar patch, of course.

Exede might be a front company for them.

EDIT: I have to communicate with the company anyway since my Mom has no idea what any of the terminology is or how anything works.

She called me earlier and told me we're getting "12 gigabytes a second, I think"

Told her that was impossible with a satellite and she started to argue.

You'd be surprised the lies that sales personal that work for media companies will tell in order to get a sale.I worked at a Verzion call center several years ago for about 6 months lots and lots of DSL customers that got sold a speed that they could not possibly get because they where too far away from the source for the fastest speeds but they got sold anyway and you know the tech isn't going to say anything. This was business DSL and boy where many of the customers suckers that had no understanding of IT at all many of them thought they had something close to FIOS then they called and wondered why the speed slowed down when just 4 PCs where online.Because you only have a basic DSL connection dufus.

No wonder the Voyager's crew is going crazy! They can't get their pornz in the Delta Quadrant! That and their medical officer isn't real and he's rude

Well...my Mom's argument on the phone with me went something like this

"Hello"

"Hey, I talked to the internet guy. We're getting Exede on Monday"

"Oh really?"

"Yeah, the guy said we'll have a higher data limit for the same price (Confirmed. I checked) and we're going to be 5 times faster than what we have now."

"Did he say how fast?"

"12 Gigabytes a secon-"

"No. That can't happen."

"It was something like that. I don't know exactly."

And it went on for a few more minutes about various things.

I talked to the Exede Rep for the area at the District Fair back in September for a good while. I grilled him for a while and I had him confirm everything he said from another source. I even tried a demo...which, it was set up in town and not the woods.

It seemed good and I looked over the plans. It's a hell of a lot better than what I have now. Actually, WildBlue isn't even operating anymore. They were eaten by Exede and now they run the whole thing instead of that *insert choice words* WildBlue *more choice words*

It'll be a good day for my internet usage. Hopefully they send out a guy who knows stuff. I may not be home when he comes. If I am, I'm going to watch everything the guy does. I don't want him screwing us over and I know my Mom and Dad aren't going to catch it.

I still think we need to put the dish at the top of a tree instead of on the house.

Don't forget to ask the tech guy if they cap you after a certain amount of usage or time of day when the demand is at its highest.

Now that you finally have a quick web access, here's what to do with it:

Already talked to them about that.

They DO cap you...but so does the internet I have now. However, between midnight and either 0500 or 0700 they have a free period where they don't count your usage.

Right now I only have a 7Gb limit (so I found out two months ago) but after Monday we'll have a 14Gb limit.

14 Gb per billing period. Which usually lasts about a month.

But the free period is every day. That'll be good since I download stuff when I go to bed.

14Gb in a thirty day period isn't a lot, I'm surprised at the strictness of the control measure.
