Default Has anyone ever sank an I-400?

April 1945: I sailed into Tokyo bay yesterday and sank about 6 ships at Yokosuka port (BB Ise, 2xCA, DD, 2xtankers) with mk16's and proceeded to Yokohama, I found the port filled with merchants except for a Sen Toku submarine. I targeted two mk16's at the sub and the rest at the other ships. While I saw the sub slip below the surface I did not get credit in the log for sinking her, as I was now out of torps I started back out to sea but at that instant SH4 crashed on me and I had to restart.

Fortunately I saved the game after the attack on Yokosuka and was able to retry the attack on Yokohama. This time four mk16's on the I-400 but again the same result. Torps hit, sub settled on the sea floor but no credit in the log for sinking the sub.

Has anyone ever had success against her?

Balao class sub using GFO mod.

Unfortunately, by default the Sen Toku is nothing more than eye candy, couldt lob 100 torpedoes into her and she would not sink. Now, there is an "AI SenToku" mod that gives you the ability to sink it with one(occasionally two) torpedo, as well as giving it AI so can sail from waypoint to waypoint at accurate speeds.I have added the AI SenToku to RSRD when it sails in 1945 and found her at Nanao Bay in Sea of Japan in June 45, sunk her.Unfortunately, the AI Sen Toku mod is kind of old and does not include proper damage model for explosions, you get the torpedo spalsh, it sinks and credit for sub sunk. I'm trying to figure out how to improve it.

the game wont "register" it as sunk but if you hit it in open water it will sink deep enough to "vanish" from going deep enough to no longer be rendered by the game. bottom line is the I-400 is worthless to you so save your torps for something you will get credit for sinking

the sub was never meant to be anything but visual eye candy as previously mentioned so the I-400 will sink when you hit it but the smaller 2 man sub will never sink under any condition so don't waste time on that little thing if you find one sitting in a port somewhere, unless you just want to see it fly into the air like popcorn

With the AI Sen Toku mod, it will register as sunk.

ok, thanks

its been a while since I looked into all that but it still must be sunk in deep water to be recorded.

sinking in port it just settles to the bottom and sits there without being recorded.

You can still get a kill with it on the surface and credit. Heck, sometimes it takes awhile to sink after you sunk it.
