ANZAC Day

A salute to all Australian and New Zealanders that fought, a thanks to their families for their sacrifice, and a thanks to all currently serving personnel.

I hope those that could do attended the dawn services, a little for their lot.

Absolutely.

I'm Turkish and have a whole lot of respect for the Anzac troops who fought in our country. As the founder of our country said about them;

Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land. They have become our sons as well.

I've met a lot of them here on subsim in the last ten years or so

always thought of them as fine brave men, including kiwi

I did manage to meet one in person, a sail maker in San Diego.

They tend to hold their liquor longer than the Americans, but sooner
or later they go by the wayside too.

God bless your day of rejoice and fair winds to ye all

Yes, you Turks were very honourable enemies, and now you are very honourable friends

He was born in my home town South Shields:

Quote:
Simpson was born on 6 July 1892 in South Shields, United Kingdom, the son of Robert Kirkpatrick and Sarah Simpson Kirkpatrick. He was one of eight children, and worked with donkeys during summer holidays as a youth.
