NEW TO SH4 WHAT STARTER MOD!

Hi Guys
I have the SH4 dvd and would like to know what mod/s you would recommend to a beginner

Don't be afraid to play stock for a bit and see what you like and don't like about the game. Then read up on the [REL] posts in the mod section and find ones that suit your style. TMO as a mega mod is very good and corrects many flaws of the stock game. To add real life enemy traffic such as real battles and convoy traffic RSRD is very good. Many are also using the Traveller mod to beef up the real life feel of the game. But there are move variations in likes and dislikes than Baskin & Robbins 31 Flavors...so try try try.

first be sure you get the ubm v1.5 if you dont have it, its a final update for the game that you buy separately unless you got the gold edition dvd in which case it comes with it.

98% of all mods are made to be used for v1.5 and if you don't have it your mod choices are very limited.

as for the game, as mentioned you should get used to stock game first then use my GFO mod which fixes a lot of things in the game but doesn't change the difficulty or stock feel for the game. after you get tired of that there are several big mods to use the two most popular are RFB and TMO.

RSRDC is a popular mod but it changes a whole lot and unless you learn the places you need to be on certain dates then its common for people to complain they cant find ships to sink. once you learn where to be it is better but there is almost no traffic at all anywhere other then those areas

what you get when you are getting the Ubisoft v1.5 UBM ad-on for sh4

you can play the game without the patch but I wouldn't recommend it, just too many unfixed bugs which the v1.5 patch fixes even thou the description for it just talks about u-boats.

funny thing is there really isn't much of anything in it for uboats except they have one u-boat added (type IX-D2) to the game that you play in the campaign plus another experimental u-boat (type XVII walther) that was never really used in the war, so its completely unrealistic to have it.

the stock german campaign is poorly done (half azzed IMO) and incomplete and doesn't try to use the type XVII U-boat at all so if you want it you need to create missions for it.

the ad-on comes with NO german missions to play at all if you can believe it, which is a joke IMO, so you need mods to give you a real u-boat campaign and filler material (ships, planes, etc).

there is a german mission pack created by a modder to give you about a dozen german missions that should have come with the ad-on but ubisoft didn't even try to give us any real german content to go along with this so called german expansion.

the u-boat german campaign thing was just a ploy ubisoft used as an excuse to make the final game patch something you needed to pay for since it wasn't a "patch" it was an "ad-on" wink wink. its just a much needed regular game patch we are forced to pay extra for.

buy the patch here http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Hunter-...ef=pd_sim_vg_1 and you will be very happy you did.

be aware it really doesnt give you much of anything so ignore all the fancy talk in the description of what your getting when you buy the ad-on, its just used car salesman talk.

its just fixes for issues with the game just like the free patches were so its not like you will see anything new for the most part but the game will run and play much better.
