So long story short, one thing that was always awesome with SHIII/GWX, was the difficulty level, I loved the fact it was hard.. IT SHOULD BE!!
Recently giving another wasteful months of gaming, I put SH4 back in.. Loaded my typical mods TMO/RSRD and a few new ones.. At first I didn't really love the OTC mod, as it was making everything looked zoomed, so I just used his max optics mod. I gave a good couple weeks of gaming and while I did enjoy the game, it was missing that "thing" I mean I had a good 10+ patrols in and I was easily going into every enemy base, sinking EVERYTHING in sight and easily leaving. I just got frustrated to say the least. I put the uboat mod on, went back to RFB, played some more SHIII (Still go back to it every few days) and finally decided to reinstall SH4 fresh, put TMO back on and give the OTC mod another shot. This time I added the Tokko's revenge and decided NOT to install the RSRD campaign/mod to it. I also did the Tambor campaign of TMO, its basically a tribute to the USS Tambor (SS-198), which served something like 13 patrols, you never get an upgrade to a new sub and basically play the whole campaign with the same boat.. Cool enough. so its my first patrol and I notice some differences, maybe because I don't have RSRD and or maybe OTC, either way so far so good.. I'm not seeing much and like normal I decide to go into Guam to do my usual. Stay on the surface till I get a contact, dive to P depth, easily flank to the harbor and start sinking (Boring!) So there I am at P depth, coming to the harbor I see 3 docked ships, yep, the couple DD's are around but I think nothing of them (like normal they never go after me) as I setting up my shots (Manually ![]() ![]() I get to 100 feet full flank before the charges are all around me, damage everywhere* major flooding in the rear stern compartment, I'm sinking.. This is nuts, but I have to say, awesome at the same time. So I quickly assigning my guys to damage and have to actually FOR once, work my way out, going silent, falling deep due to the flooding, going full speed to regain depth control and back and forth.. all while this DD is hammering me, chasing me all the way back out of the harbor and about 100 miles further.. Just like SHIII, I was stressed and relieved when I made it out, after 25 minutes of real time mind you. is this a fluke? Or am I in for some real fun with Tokko's revenge (It gives the japs better sensors/enhancing them) Just wanted to say its a real treat to finally have this! * Sorry for the story, but my real question is: Initially before I left my first patrol, I grabbed an officer, one with the Wrench, which says he's a master at fixing ,blah blah blah, required department control room or engine room, so my question is, do I leave him in those rooms when I need damage control? OR do I put him in the damage team compartment ? Is there anything I need to know about assigning damage guys? anything I could do to make sure my guys work on flooding issues? Or besides putting them in the damage compartment, its automatic? Thats it guys! I'm not sure how the stock TMO campaign plays out as I never did it without RSRD, but I hope its a nice change. Thanks! |
