Default Unsinkable Ships?

I hit the Q01B QShip from Merchant fleet mod with 4 Torpedos midships and half my deck gun ammo.It did not sink.Realistic sinking times enabled in options.
Also it seems to be a lot harder to sink ships with two torpedo hits.
Is this correct?I usually have to finish them off with my deck gun.

I'm not sure how it works myself, but part of the answer may be found here:

I use the MFM, and about half of my sinkings are 1 torpedo hits. I try to hit them under the forward mast, letting their forward momentum finish the job for me.

Thanks Gentlemen.

Yes when the ship has some forward momentum its a lot easier to sink it
with a hit in the forward part of the hull. However when the ships
engines are disabled it takes a lot longer to sink.
