Default Going after a lone destroyer

Anyone think it's worth it?

They change course and speed constantly that it is next to impossible to get a clean shot (at 1000 or so). Say bye to 2 fish

Save your game, then go for it.

Yes, definately do a Save before you try it. I usually do that before attacking a convoy or even a single escort. I know dead is dead, but hey, practice makes perfect. Sometimes. LOL

I've done it lots of times with success. But note too I'm not using full blown manual TDC.

Actually tho, practice in Historical single mission first to get the hang of it. Let it get in close, but no closer that 500 or 600 meters. Don't try any farther out than that or they will evade it. Launch a Steam torp set to it's fastest speed at any depth above it's draft depth, and pistol set to magnetic. 99% of the time the escort can't evade it. Becareful if they're making any turn. Fire when they just start a turn will work. Head on at you will also nail them, if they are on their first intercept course.

But if you miss, dive fast and change course. Because now they are p*ssed off to no end and will relentlessly hunt you down.

It´s very dangerous

try to attract it to your position and be ready for crash dive if it the torpedos mised .

I normally do not bother unless there is next to no chance of missing. If I have the jump on him, I have found that using the slowest torpedo speed setting has the better chance of hitting because the torpedo creates less noise and wake in the water. I have observed this in 3-5. If he spots you, all you can do is either turn directly into or away from him and when he chases you, cut loose with a point-blank torpedo at 800m. Even if he tries to evade, all he does is present a broader target for the torpedo.

Point blank at 500 to 600 meter is even more effective IMO. Even with a head on shot. With a T1 steam torpedo set to it's fastest speed, the escort cannot evade fast enough even if it tries. BIG badda boom!!!

I just sank 5 British destroyers on my my return to the Atlantic Air Gap patrol zone coming out of Lorient. They almost ran over us. Thankfully the lookouts on the con gave us the heads-up quick enough so we could dive.

So a lone destroyer is actually easy. It's just a bit more difficult when there's more. You have to launch your torpedos faster.
This last one took 2 torps. Funny thing was this last one was the only one that came looking for us. They were in a hurry to meet up with something as all were doing 15kts.
