Who are the best Doctor Who villains?

The 10 options above are the main villains. If your favourite is not one of the above, write it in a post.

My favourit are the Cybermen. They look brilliant, and the scariest thing isn't that they'll kill you, it's that they'll turn you into one of them!

From your list, I chose Daleks. The only villian which made me stick a saucepan on my head and walk around saying "exterminate"......in my childhood of course.

You are missing possibly the main villain in the entire series. The Master.

While previous incarnations of the Master have always been a little 'watered down' imho, the most recent dispelled that feeling and was brilliantly portrayed by John Simms. In fact whenever I hear Voodoo Child by the Rogue Traders, I can't help but remember that particular episode(s).

Its tough but Im going to go with Cybermen, we need to do a 'who was your doctor' poll at some point, even though it pretty much equates to a 'how old are you' thread..

My favourite is, can't remember the name and too lazy to google, the one that was also a time lord and went from the future into the present, got himself elected prime minister, shot the US president and then wiped out half the world population

That would be the afore-mentioned Master. The latest version, the one you mention, was written as a little to insane for my taste. Personally I don't think any of them have come close to the sinister but mostly sane original, Roger Delgado. I find it highly entertaining that The Master, considered The Doctor's archenemy, didn't make his first appearance until Season 8.

My favorite villain? I don't have one. Some are better done than others, but they are what give the stories their impetus. Without villains there could be no heroes. I voted for the Daleks. I didn't like what they did in the return of the Weeping Angels, but their first appearance, 'Blink', gets my vote as the single most entertaining and original episode ever.

@ JU_88: The "How old are you?" thing doesn't work with me in this case. Paraphrasing Will Rogers, I like to say "I've never watched a Doctor I didn't like". William Hartnell doesn't predate me, but I didn't see a single one of his shows until long after he died. I loved Tom Baker, but I also love David Tennant and Matt Smith. As long as the shows are well-written (I won't say well-done) I like them for the stories.

The Daleks are the most classic, but I think that they've been somewhat nerfed of late. Particularly with the Mighty Morphin' Power Daleks, but Davros in 'The Stolen Earth' and 'Journeys End' was particularly marvellous.
The Master is always a tricky one to play, Simms Master was more psychotic than Delgrado who was clever and calculating, I wish that Derek Jacobi could have had longer as the Master, I think he could have made the role very very dark indeed.

In regards to the Weeping Angels, I agree they have been taken down a bit in recent times, but the next two episodes that see the departure of Amy and Rory might do something to reinstall that fear...might...the Dalek episode didn't really do anything to make the Daleks seem more scary like Moffat wanted to. So we'll see.

So, yes, I think the best villain, certainly in the recent series (haven't seen that much of the old series) is Davros. Julian Bleach does a fantastic job of portraying the pure megalomania behind him.

The Daleks (the original ones).

Haven't seen much of the old series? You need to see:
Season 1: episodes 4-11 (The Dead Planet - The Survivors - The Escape - The Ambush - The Expedition - The Ordeal - The Rescue, AKA The Daleks), the seven episodes that introduced them right at the beginning of the show.

Season 12: Genesis Of The Daleks, the six episodes that introduced Davros.

Both outstandingly written and played.

Is 'Genesis' the one with Tom Baker that has the famous 'wires' scene? I've seen that clip and thought it an excellent portrayal of the grey area of morality that the Doctor frequently finds himself in.
