Low framerates

Hello there

Apologies as I'm sure this has probably been covered before, and I have read a couple of threads on this issue, but I'm after some advice more specific to my experience.

To put it simply I'm getting low frame rates in SH5 and at times there is noticeable lag, especially when using time compression of =>1024.

Here's my system specs -

AMD Phenom II 955 BE @3.2ghz
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB
8GB RAM DDR3 @1333mhz
Windows 7 64bit Home
(don't know if any other specs are relevant?)

Basically when I measure the frame rate with Fraps I'm lucky to be achieving >20 frames per second.

I'm running the game in 1920x1080 with shadows on min, AA on min, full screen, no V-sync and everything else either ticked or on the full end of the slider.

I've tried reducing the settings including the resolution (to 1280x720) but didn't notice much of an improvement to warrant the reduction in graphical quality and I've even tried the anti-lag .dll that I came across whilst reading about SH5 frame rates (think it was actually meant for SH4) but that didn't seem to make much difference.

Is it simply that my system is below par for SH5 or is there something I can do to achieve an ideal framerate, 30+ or better 60+?

Many thanks.

I have a 5870 also and it runs great .
download the shadows lite mod and put slider half way .
http://www.filefront.com/17018577/Sh...ent%20ModLR.7z

In the catalyst control centre use Multi sample AA for the AA mode . Filter mode is box .

use antilag http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=2871
do not use the mod enebler to enable the antilag . Instead place the 2 extracted files
in your main Sh5 game folder .

I have the ASUS EAH5870 V2, when I installed the original driver "8.673.0.0"that was in the disk included with in the graphic card box, the FPS were OK, later with each newer released AMD/ATI driver I was up-dating the FPS were worst and worst and worst, finally I installed again the original driver included within the graphic card box and the FPS become good again, therefore I cannot update to new ATI driver

Ok thanks, hadn't come across that mod, I've just installed it so I'll check it out and see what my framerate is using that.

Ok. I use ATI tray tools though.

OK I tried that again just now and the game just crashes while running the opening movie (I get to see the poster of the woman on the wall and that's it.). I changed the value in the .cfg to 60 for the max frames. Quite odd as the other day it did work but I saw no improvement or at least nothing worthwhile.

OK I came across that thread whilst searching for fixes, I'll have a further read of that though, but it does seem an awful lot to read and do, and I can't see anything that would improve fps dramatically, your list of mods also greatly changes the game (from what I understand of the mods listed) and I quite like the game as it is, I certainly don't wish to start a new campaign as I've only just completed Blockade on Germany and British Coastal Waters had a hell of a problem locating an aircraft carrier and 5 AMC ships, so I'd rather not go through that again.

But I will look at some of the mods you suggest that don't alter the look of the UI or gameplay, dramatically, for example I already have the accurate flags mod.

EDIT - Using that shadows mod and setting the AA in CCC as suggested (or ATI tray tools as I have) seems to have worked, I'm now getting 30-40 fps when docked and on the dock or on the conning tower of the U boat prior to leaving for a mission and out at sea/using periscopes I'm getting 60+ fps, walking around inside the boat seems to be better also.

Many thanks for the advice.
