Default Horrors/Activating mods crashing my game...

I'm getting stumped, and really bummed. Not long ago I added The"Slower Walking" mod to my stew. No problems at first, (JSGME gave me a conflict message between "SW" and The Manos Periscope, specifically the "camera.dat" file) but it was working. Then a few plays later and my avatar is stuck in run. The shift key is doing nothing, and deactivating the 'Slower Walking' mod does nothing. So...I re-installed the game. I've done it before, no problems, right?
Wrong. After the re-install, I loaded the save and no mods. OK. I'll re-install JSGME again. Now I load the save and crash, CTD. The CTD is always right before the game begins. So I can access the Begin new campaigns. So I tried that. No Go. Same thing, CTD. So I un-installed again, this time I deleted everything, all folders, everything. Re-installed, Same thing. Of course I keep getting all my saved games back from Ubisoft, but for now that's OK, I don't think it's a corrupted game file as I loaded quite a few, including base saves. They all crash.
Kaleuns!! What should I try next. It's got to be the mods, 'cause the stock game will load.
I am currently creating a new mods folder with all "fresh" mods.
Is it possible that activating two or more conflicting mods actually corrupted one or more mod files, or files in the data folder?? Bad enough to crash? Here is the basic list:

Any feedback on this is welcome. I am really bummed about this. This is my favorite go to game. I gotta' fix it.
Danke

I posted a very similar thread asking for advice on my mod load order to try and find out (in a humble way) what might be causing my CTDs..... not super complicated... and Just like you.... not one single reply or suggestion. This used to be a really helpful community... sad.

I don't think it's matter of not wanting to help but more a problem of the 100's of mod soups where no one really has an idea of which order is the best due to all the possible combinations....

Dogfish, I just had a simialr problem:
I re-arranged my soup and then got CTD's when choosing a historical mission / save game.
I un-installed the last third of my mods and re-installed them one by one...

My game is working again, I also had the Equipment Upgrades Fix installed last. At the moment I'm running again after removing the Upgrades Fix......

Also check if you mods are installed correctly ( first subfolder shoul have a data folder)

BTW, there is a new version of IRAI available....

There's nothing there really obviously out of place, though you don't need the DE Sounds if you're using Stormy's DBSM. If the walking mod conflicts with the cameras.dat I'd drop it for good, as that was probably what caused you to get stuck at running speed.

A point to note - always always switch online saving OFF in the launcher to avoid storing saves online as they often glitch out.

Give up on the old saves and see if you can start a fresh campaign with your new mod setup installed. If you can't get into the game at all with the mods installed, remove them all and add them one by one until you get your CTD.

Remember to save & reload the save if you make it to the bunker, transitioning from bunker to sea without a loading screen means the sea layer hasn't loaded. Remember to check all your mod folders for the right file structure etc.

Let us know how you get on.

Assuming you mean this:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=195201

maybe no one responded because your mod list is HUGE! I don't even know where to start with it tbh, but if I were you I would wipe the lot, and my old saves, and start fresh.

Look at what each mod is actually doing - you've got tons of overlapping sound mods and graphic/environment mods, and god knows what else in there. Strip the mods back to the very basics and work up from there.

First off, I want to thank you both for responding, this is one of those strange quirky problems that can only happen in SH.

Stevepine; I've been around for a little while now, and at first I was thinking the same, as nobody was running to help. I think 0rpheus is right though, it's difficult to look at a problem like this and just run and help out. I really love this little community here and will always hope that the Kaluens and Skippers are always going to be here for each other, 'cause we ain't gettin' no help from you know who.
0rpheus, thanks for your input, I did use some of this advise and will also take several other things into consideration.
Unfortunately, I had to quite literally Punt. I made fresh copies of all the mods to wipe out any corruption and made a new mods folder. I wrote that I could get into the game if the mods were disabled, this was not so. I had to do another install then find the patch, 'cause the auto patching from UBISOFT doesn't seem give you 1.2.
Now, after all that, I finally got into the tutorial mission which allowed me access to delete game saves. [By the way 0rpheus, you must tell me how to stop ubisoft from saving my games, I didn't see that option. Where is it?]
After deleting ALL my game saves, (just in case any were corrupted), I started the first mission. Tonight I will start putting the mods back in.
Yes, and I'm staying away from the "Slower Walking" mod, it's not that important. That's not saying anything bad about the mod itself, I don't want to give that impression, it might not even be the cause. I had a lot of saved games. It could be that it finally was too much. Anyway, after deleting the game saves, I started playing but realized at 2:00 this morning that I had to get that 1.2 patch into the game quick and that's where I left off.
I will report more as this goes along as I think it's an important issue. My game was running and looking really great, and then...bang...this happens for seemingly no reason.
I'll post tomorrow how the game responds when I reintroduce the mods.
0rpheus/Stevepine, Danke und Gute Jagd.

No problem Dogfish, happy to help!

Not patching to 1.2 is almost guaranteed to be the killer, a lot of people get caught out by that it seems. It's been so long since I installed I didn't think to mention it!

To switch off online saves, start the launcher but do not load the game. Look in the launcher settings menu (where you find the offline mode option) - there'll be an option called 'enable save game syncing'. Deactivate this - the server will still check for saves when SH5 loads, but saves will only be stored on your hard drive.

Let us know how you get on

Yeah, It's funny. I've always had that unchecked but it seems it saves anyway.
On the first reinstall I did, I kept the game saves to see if I could load any of them. They all crashed, (the game did anyway).
By the third reinstall, I was deleting everything, all the folders I went in and deleted them manually. So there was nothing there. When the reinstall was done, I went and checked the saved games and they were there again. This is with that box you mentioned unchecked. So I simply had to get into the game to access the save game page so I could delete the game saves there. That insures that you delete online as well.
It's interesting that they say we can play "offline" (no DRM) yet, even unchecking boxes and whatever, the site still seems to save the games. I mean I had deleted all the folders, then after all that, the saved games were back. So that must mean they are still saving, offline or not.
When we play "offline", that pop-up box says 'Synchronizing saved games' or whatever, and it is. I've never played the game with the DRM on yet, there it is.
The only thing I haven't tried, (and I'm going to), is pulling the plug on the Internet and seeing if the game still plays. If you set the DRM to "offline, and the site has that information, then theoretically, you should be able to play the game with the Internet shut off completely right?!
I'll tell you how that works out as well.
We'll see...

Fairly certain it's saving to user/documents/SH5 or a similar path on your hard drive rather than the Ubi servers if that box is unchecked - just deleting the Silent Hunter 5 directory from your C: drive won't erase saves kept in a different location.

To completely clear your machine try to use the Revo Uninstaller
http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_..._download.html
Uninstall the Silent Hunter 5 - first step the next is Uninstall Ubisoft Launcher. Now your machine is cleared.

Yeah, Definitly. You have to go to My Docs/SH5 to get at the save files. So after I un-installed, I would delete the Ubisoft/SH5 directory folder (cause it leaves the directory folder) Then I go to My Docs and delete all the files in SH5 and the folder as well.
So in other words, there is no more SH5 folders in Program files or My Docs.
Then I re-installed the game, and the save files were back. I'm not makin' this up.
I know I never played the game with the DRM on, it was always offline.
So, the only way I knew that all the save files would truly be gone from my computer and the server would be to delete them one by one from the save game page.
Anyway, they are definitely gone now and I can't wait to get home and start the new career. I just hope that the game is all done playin with me !
And thanks to the Col, I will definitely check out that uninstaller. It looks like a good thing to have handy, after this mess!
0rpheus, I'll post after I get my mod stew back up and running, hopefully it will be just fine.

This program searches for everything that is installed. Cleans the registry. I use it all the time. It is easy and transparent to use.
As I wrote, delete the Ubisoft Launcher - This will clear the history of the game completely.
After that did not have to manually delete anything else. Ubisoft Launcher is really troublesome
You don`t need to use CCleaner or other standalone soft Revo is almost All in One

But you still have to use the launcher when you reinstall, correct?
'Nother question; If I un-install the gam using either the Disc or the widows un-install feature, doesn't it also take the launcher with it,
or, does it leave the launcher in the computer?
I'm downloading the Revo thing now by the way, it looks like a cool little tool.
Thanks

Forgot about Win Adds/Remove or something like that Kind of mistake. If you want to clean house, not enough to amount to outdoor furniture.
"doesn't it also take the launcher with it" No. Silent Hunter 5 is the game, the Launcher is the... Launcher. After installation of Revo look on the list of installed programms on your machine. Uninstall the SH5 and look one more time. Launcher still there - Uninstall
After this action you can go into your Documents. I bet that you will not find there SH5 folder
After that Install the game wait till upgrade - GU.exe. If something fail, one more time GU.exe. This is Ubisoft Start the game and go to the Load section, should be absolutely clear If you have previously played off-line

Bahh well I have seen other people with just as long lists. I solved my problems after stripping it all down and then building back up.... going through it very very carefully one by one.... it took hours.... and I was just looking for some friendly pointers..... ( rather than your "screw you - start again" reply ) but honestly I still think this Sim will feel unfinished even in a year or 2 from now. After many years, I just cant be bothered with SH5 anymore to be honest. Adios
