Default Favorite Hunting Ground?

OK - I'm sure that everyone has a favorite "Hunting Ground"... you know... that place you go where there's always a convoy or task force coming through, etc. I thought it might be a great way for those of us who are relatively new to the game to find out where the "Pros" go to send their trophies to see Davey Jones! Kinda like sittin' around the hunting lodge and finding out where the best tree stand is...

Personal Favorite Hunting Grounds:
Just South of the Rockall Bank
-or-
South of Sable Island (the cresent shaped island SE of Halifax, Nova Scotia)

I take my boat wherever Command tells me to patrol for 24hrs - then depending on the year which has a large bearing on traffic patterns and, factoring risk, I will go on the hunt to likely zones and am usually able to plot a good lane for the time of year and traffic patterns. Sort of like deer hunting .. or fishing!

I treat it like it was real: go to assigned grid and stay there. If it means crappy (i.e. realistic) tonnage, so be it.

Rockall Bank
Gibraltar
AN 13-14-26-27 (for early war deck gun rampage)

And generally speaking, the Mediterranean is sweet. Less fat targets but nice weather and shorter distances to travel. I absolutely hate cruising so I've never really been farther than Freetown.

Oh yes

Go to grid "BE39" , and in june '42 :
grid "DB98" 22km NW of the NW corner of grid "DM31"
I sank 100.000 tons on one patrol down there
Another very good area at the end of 1941 to may-june '42
is the area Grid "ED9" NW of port of spain

If I'm bored, AM 52 or 53 for some cheap 5000m hit and runs. Water's pretty deep for a coastal area. But you can't surface if don't want bombs down your pants.

Otherwise, I go to my assigned square like a good captain.

Scapa early in the war, Gibralter mid-war, and off Cape Town in the twilight of my years.

AM36 any year

In 1939 anywhere will do, so long as it's not west of the British isles

St. George's Channel and the approaches to Bristol in 1940 and early 41

for 1942 I prefer the Med

1943, oh, way out in the Atlantic or possibly the Caribbean

1944 and 1945 a comfortable sub-pen with a thick roof, yes indeed but if I must go out there, AM36

I obey orders like a good Kaleun. But there's an area 50 hours sailing WNW off lorient which is rich in plunder. Nice stop to make when returning home short of good tonnage.

BF13 can be very profitable in the early war years. I once sank 5 merchants there for about 30,000 tons. That was a good 3 days. Watch out for MTB's though. They frequently patrol in pairs there & can be a real pest sometimes.

NW of Tobruk can be pretty good as well. I hit & sank 2 11,000+ ton large merchants within 2-3 hours (game time) on my last patrol there.

I go where BDu send me. But if I can, I always go via AN14 (mainly in the early war period 39' till mid 40'), as I usually get a contact or two.
