Default First German tall sailing ship since 50 years

It is the first tall sailing ship newly built in Germany since over 50 years: the Alexander von Humboldt II has been commissioned for service in Bremerhaven. Some pics:

The new sailing ship can be a home for up to 79 people.

Thats a nice one, maybe we can take that one in trade and give you back your old boat 'Horst Wessel' launched by Blohm & Voss back in '36? Of course she had a name change and a new paint job since then.

Will Alexander von Humboldt II be in the U.S. for OpSail 2012?

Deal!
While the AH II is certainly the more modern ship, the HW/Eagle does look much sexier!

Don't know when the OPsail is, but there are no journeys planned to the US till April 2012 (the ship's page states no dates after that)

She does look sexy but only from a distance. Like any old lady, underneath all that paint and make-up are some serious wrinkles that just can't be ironed out.

I think April '12 is when OpSail is scheduled. Always a sight to see when the tall ships gather

ANY tall ship is sexy. I love it when they get together.

Ditto I'd love to go on a cruise on one of those lovely boats.

She is beautiful Skybird. I love the dark green paint chosen. Maybe she will ply the waters to the Chesapeake Bay one day. I will see her in person.

I don'T know anything aboiut sailing ships, but this one has lines that in my personal perception have something very "classical" in them. It represents somewhat a visual "ideal" for a sailing ship of that size to mer.

I don't like the greenish tone colour of her sails a lot, but she's a fine-looking ship overall.

See, that's how easy you can rip off us Eurotrash: just add a little bling-bling and we'll buy it!

However the old ship has character, something the new one has to earn first.
