Nice picture out the scope there. I went to the Nautilus when I was in Sub School and my pictures didn't turn out so well. I blame the crappy weather.

Bill Nichols told me that the areas aft of the reactor compartment have been given the same treatment as those forward of it - plexiglased off and kept in spotless condition. They're just waiting for the day when those areas are finally declassified and open to the public. The actual reactor was removed when the boat was transformed into a museum, though I suspect all you'd see in the reactor compartment would be a shielded tunnel.

Actually, the reactor is still there. Only the fuel rods were removed.

Thank all for your comments
![]() I didn't expect that there is really much to see of the reactor - except for this hatch that was in the movie "Ice Station Zebra" where you could like right into the reactor. I wonder if such a hatch really exists. The turbine room would have been very interesting to see though. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry for the pictures coming in so slowly - i have a bad upload with my connection so it takes some time. |
