Default Wiped out a 20-ship convoy tonight.

100% Realism.

December 30th, 1940. Grid BE39. Only 2 Flower-Class escorts.

Took my Type IX and wiped out the whole damn convoy. 18 merchants, 2 warshps, for 96,357 tons.

Lots of pictures here:

Sorry to say it, maillemaker, but this is not 100% realism for "real", with map contacts on, and taking this into consideration and the early stage of the war in which that mission took place, it's not bad, but it's really no big deal what you've done in that mission either. If you think about yourself as a SH III - GWX 3.0 100% realism player, you might consider joining our multiplayer group, called "Monsun Gruppe". We have a multiplayer campaign that is going on so, if you are interested, please consider this as an official invitation: http://monsungruppe.4umer.net/forum.htm
We always need 100% realism players, the kind that are pushing the game to its boundaries regarding gameplay.

Wiping out a convoy is an unusual achievement under all circumstances. Congratulations, Kaleun.

On my former life with a different computer, I was able to "escort" a large convoy from Freetown and whittle it away. The grand finale came on a calm day when I ran out of deck gun ammo and watched 4 small freighters limp north.

The track of that luckless convoy is recorded on the Spinnenetz chart.

We had a jolly good time at the Lorient officers club.

This time, the drinks are on you.

Thats the spirit, sink them all and slaughter the survivors with your AA guns. Turn the Atlantic blood red with the enemy.

It's 100% realism according to the settings that GWX determine. I have everything off but the map contacts.

I'm tempted to turn that off, too, because it is getting the point where I can accurately fire torpedoes from the TDC screen, leading my auto-update target on the map appropriately and make the kill. Plus the auto-map gives you precise range and bearing info. It's getting a little arcade-like with the "god-view".

But I figure that in real life the captain would be calling down range and bearing information from the attack scope and someone would have been plotting that info anyway.

Then of course what I am doing is gaming the game. I haul in external torpedoes while chasing the convoy at flank speed - even while the deck gun is firing! Not to mention that the destroyer AI should not make them so easy to pick off. Also some have said that warships were routinely degaussed so I'm not sure how effective magnetic torps would be on them anyway. Also the convoys in real life would have scattered, or, having 20:1 odds in their favor, tried to run me down and ram me.

Nonetheless, this **** is hard. I have only taken out an entire convoy 2 or 3 times, including this one. It was one of my goals to do, now my other one is to make it through the war DiD.

Thanks, but between work, school, and family, I don't have the spare time to coordinate gameplay with other folks.

I did just last week, precisely for the same reasons. I do a little bit of pleasure sailing, and let me tell you plotting your position on a chart is easily one of the most demanding things! Having the GPS-like "god view" was making the game too easy for me, so I've decided to restart with map contacts off. And I've disabled the range callout from my WO too, so I am solely in charge of getting range and bearing for a plot.

Wow! What a different experience it is proving to be! Suddenly even plotting an intercept course is a challenge! I am greately enjoying my first shakedown cruise in my new Type II

PS. could I entreat you to convert your screenshots to JPG format before posting them? I very much enjoy seeing the carnage, but BMP is so painfully slow to download

Default Congratulations!

That's an impressive mission, no matter what anybody says.

It is true that the AI doesn't quite do what would be a real-life scatter with smoke all around.

Anyway, I am in awe.

This is most impressive.

This gives good reason for Allied sailors to pray for land.

Full respect to you, I struggle around the 80+% realism to hit anything attached to a quay. I should re-read all those helpful tutorials.
