I just installed SH4 and had another SilentHunter moment when I needed to refuel at Midway and do my usual last waypoint a good 10 minutes out from the docks.Cruised in at 1/3 and refueled and the first thing that came to my mind was that the SH series are awesome ship simulations....who needs ship simulation games!! I am using RFB mod for further immersion.
![]() Something just didn't click though and my missions in SH3 seemed to pull me in more for some reason.I finally hit a storm with 15mph winds and it dawned on me.The ships roll such a minimal amount in SH4 compared to SH3.The only thing I can think of for this is that people complained about not being able to aim in rough seas.I play with the view stabilized since I feel its easier to do this in real life compared to doing it with just a mouse and need the sea sickness back to my SH4 game. ![]() Second thing and more important is that there is no sounds for wake and wave crashing in SH4 and SH5.I searched the web and there was some attempts in the past to fix this but the posts just ended with no resolve. Here are a few vids to show what I am talking about. SH3... SH5..similar to SH4... This next video is the most immersion I have ever experienced in a video game and its SH4.Land lovers be warned!! Anyone know why this is removed for SH4 and SH5? |

It seems that they removed the bow crash sound from SH4 and SH5,though I think its modded back into SH5.The wav file "Val de prova Submarin.wav" is not used anymore.I tweaked it to ridicuulously loud levels and I never heard it.This is the sound you heard when the bow came crashing down thru a wave and really added immersion to the game. Why they removed such an immersion boosting detail is beyond me.Boggles me the same as when they removed the excellent weapon sway when running in Stalker SHoC for the newer games in the series.
That said you still have the "Vapor Siaj.wav".This is the constant boat flowing thru the water sound.I went and raised the volume on it and its a big improvement.Just tweak it not too high and not to low and it adds a good deal by blending in better.I tried adding in the "surfacing" sound renamed as Vapor Siaj.wav and it sounds awesome...like the boat is crashing thru the waves. The only problem is that its repetitive and the brain notices right away.I tried cutting off the ends and tapering down and back up the volume which just adds to the repetitive feel of it.If some one could make a really good sound for this then the lack of actual bow crash sound could be overlooked. EDIT---does anyone know why alot of good mods from past seems to disappear. Most of the mods I want to add in link to blank pages saying files have been removed. For example is one that made the water that pours out the small holes up and down the sub look very realistic........now gone. Here is a video showing SH3 with some tweaks that make it look soo realistic....also has the excellent bow crash adding its charm. Bow wave sound was fixed for Sh4. RFB team was made aware how to fix it, so i would have thought it would be in the mod.

Thanks Ducimas,is the bow crash sound working in TMO?I have reinstalled RFB numerous times and it never appears nor in vanilla SH4 for that matter.Tonight I did some tweaking of the sound files and thought I had a unique idea of changing "amb_OceanSkyline.wav" to have the diesel exterior sound always playing. My reasoning was it sounded bad to go to engine stop and silence when in reality the engines are not turned off just idleing. Then I checked out your"Submarine waves lap.wav" and come to find you have merged in the diesel sound to this one file....BRILLIANT !!!!
![]() Thats why TMO felt so much more smooth in immersion from RFB.Thing is I like the higher realism as thats what floats my boat.Any chance of merg.....ahh NM I figure you have been asked thousands of times. ![]() Another question,is the long time the subs take to slowdown realistic?Every boat I have been in seems to slow fast when the power is cut. |

On that note, I acknowledge that I need to go back through subs in TMO to get more realistic performance. I spent most of my time on diving times and dive angles when diving, fuel and battery recharge while neglecting other areas of performance. Quote:
All i know for sure, is from an interview i saw of a sub vet (I forget where i heard/read this), is that a fleet boat, if one was to compare it to a car, handled like a school bus, and didn't speed up or slow down very quickly. |
