Default Please tell me it gets harder...

November 25th, 1939.

I have already sunk 160K of tonnage, with the biggest one being a nelson. EVERY single time I come across a convoy I am completely ignored by the escorts.

Sunk a Nelson - no response, escorts steamed on.

Damaged a queen Elizabeth - same deal

Raped a convoy - 3 escorts just did minor course changes.

I mean, I understand that at the beginning of the war, the Tommies did not use ASDIC very well and their DCs were set too shallow... But COME ON! At least have the cook throw some frikin' potatoes on my hull to simulate an attack.

Please tell me there is more of a challenge then this.

Could it be that different game distributions (dvd vs digital) has anything to do with the comments on escorts ignoring the uboat?

This is a serious problem with the game. The AI is truly terrible.
Attack in fog and they won't fire back, you can attack with the deck gun!!!! I sunk 3 Dido light cruisers this way

Strange, I'm in January 40, found a convoy and only managed to sink a ship and damage another before I was driven off by the escorts. 3 of 4 headed my way full speed. It was a night attack and they even fired star shells, it was like daylight and I had to crash dive. Then 2 of them dropped DCs around me for four hours before they finally gave up. I can't believe they were that good in Jan-40.

But, someting I noticed, if SH5 acts strange in one way or another, save and reload...and everything is just fine

HA! I shelled the Queen Elizabeth...

Ran out of ammo since she wouldn't sink. I guess it takes a while to sink those with an 88...

But still... AT LEAST lob a shell in my direction.

Scapa is the best port to hold a loud &wild midnight party. Last time I raided the place, was on surface with chicks and bbq on con tower and the radio at max. At 1.2 km from QE I launched a salvo then continued the loud party for another hour. No brit was interested in us or at least to join our party. Not even the drunk crew firing the cannon randomly did not get their attention

I'm really sad about SH5. I can live with the bugs, I can live with the unfinished content, but not with how casual this game is now. SH should be a very hardcore game, sinking a ship should be a great achievement so you can feel that u play a real sim, not pacman.

This trend to make the games more and more casual pisses me off. Blizzard did the same with WoW, but at least the hardcore raiders had an option for hard modes. Even so, many hardcore players left the game, including me. But sadly, there is no more hard games on market. Everything is casual now, just to get all nabs playing ur game and make more money. I was in big hope that I will find again in SH5 the hardcore gaming I love, but this version is just an epic fail. Match the dots and fire away, then post ur log on ubi... what a great game

+1 to this...

This is kinda how I feel.

Oh man this thread is making me sad - anyone else out there getting a plastering by the escorts?

Must of been one hell of a party. The cook must have been going crazy making his "special meal"...

I have been attacked by escorts nearly every time i have attacked a convoy they have been most of the time verry good i even have been shot at from long range at night and on my first patrol i was hunted by 7 destroyers for 8 hours with some of them working in pairs to cut off my ascape rout to the open sea so i am thinking to that it may be a problem with the digital download game as apposed to the DVD version of the game which mine is, i offten read of problems with the destroyer A.I and think to my self are they playing a diffrent game to me as i have no such problems ?

So far I have found DDs that want to sink me, but the planes tend to just keep buzzing me but never take a shot

I have a mod that adresses this, also it adjusts the 20mm flak gun so the crew can actually shoot a plane down.

I wonder if the difficulty level you start the campaign at is the culprit?

It has no effect on DDs, that much I know.

They seem to track me just fine.... until I dive below 40 meters. Then they forget I exist.

We'll I also have the DVD versions and I have yet to be molested by a DD...

Strange how some people see completely different stories - uber hard DDs and escorts that will completely ignore you if you are submerged.

I just snuck into a task force. I play with no contacts on, so i have no idea where their "sensor" circles are... but here's what happened:

June 1941:
Mid-Day, Light fog, Periscope depth, fank speed, coming in from the side..

I was able to get all the way into the middle of the group no problem and i fired 4 torpedos from ~600m and sunk a Kent Heavy cruiser. Dove to 40m depth, turned right 90 degrees and sailed away. Not a single light escort turned to look for me. They just sailed away into the sunset.

Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. I was doing flank speed, with my scope up the whole time... and pased right near the outer escort screen.

This is not an isolated incident either. This happens to me routinely. I can't remember the last time i've had to use the TDC. Every convoy i encounter gets raped from ~500m. No need for a solution at that range. Just come in from the side, and lead em ever so slightly.
