Default Arctic Convoys

Wow, I don't know if anyone has started this yet but the Initial requirment is 50 merchant ships and 5 Dido cruisers!!!!!! I say initial because this accounts for 5 stars out of 10 so I would imagine there will be more. All in 8 months.
I think I am going to have to remain constantly at sea and re-fit in nearest friendly ports

Also....I am using the half tonnage requiremnt mod, IF it is working on this campaign the real requirement will be double

You gotta be freaking kidding me.
That's a bloody ludicrous requirement.

Im using the lite campaign mod, which i believe is a derivative of the less tonnage mod, and it may still say you have to sink 50 merchants but 25 will be enough for the stars.

At least thats how it seems to work in the earlier campaigns using this mod. So sometimes the campaign objectives remain as high as they were in stock, but you'll get the full credit for just half that amount - if that makes any sense :-)

But the stock quota systrem is insane and leaving aside the non-realistic nature of those targets, it also just takes much fun away from the game because it becomes a chore.

Maybe they needed to make the AI buggy and horrible so that players coulkd actually accomplish the objectives. Imagine if the game had good AI, those targets would be impossible.

I have already completed both objectives with no mods installed this is a great game once you get the hang of it but there are numerous bugs that need to be patched thats for sure this game is not complete but still alot of fun to play.

I also think the game doesnt expect you to fill all of the stars. its like getting 100% on a test at school

Finding and sinking the fifty ships was easy, Finding that many Dido's was harder. I ended up sneaking in to Scapa and found two anchored. I sank them and a couple of heavy cruisers. Refit at Bergen then straight back to Scapa and lo there were two more Dido's waiting to be picked off.

Found two more in a heavily defended task force. Four cruisers and 20-ish destroyer screen.

I'm on the look out for carriers and battleships now, to the point of avoiding convoys so I have some eels left when I find the capital ships.

How many ships did the best reallife U-boat commander ever actually sink ? The campaign is nice but these insane targets are kinda game breaker ...at least for me.

Otto Kretschmer was the u-boat commander with the highest tonnage total.

40 ships sunk for a total of 208,954 GRT
3 auxiliary warships sunk for a total of 46,440 GRT
1 warship sunk for a total of 1,375 tons
1 ship sunk for a total of 2,136 GRT
5 ships damaged for a total of 37,965 GRT
2 ships a total loss for a total of 15,513 GRT

That was from Oct '39 through Mar '41. So yes, the original campaign requirements are ridiculously high. In game I've doubled this amount and I'm still on Total Germany.

Just been to Murmansk, there wasn't even a harbour installation there!!! There were however 6 merchants lined up in a row. Then headed over to archangel and although there was a massive harbour installation there were no ships except a solitary escort

Hate to think that the huge totals required and simple(no?) AI is to make the game more appealing to the action game crowd. Don't see any real reason for it otherwise. In that case they should have gone the Battlestations Midway/Pacific or HAWX route, though Battlestations at least had a good approximation of battles and was fun to blast away with the Yamato.
