Identifying ships

I can never seem for the game to identifying ships, they are always classed as unknown targets despite being able to see ttheir flags ect, how do I identify them?

There is a mod for download here which unlocks some keyboard commands

simply press shift+I

Still doesn't identify ships thou.....

click in the dialogue box where it says "I have an Unknown ship..."

click "unknown ship" to bring up the recognition manual
