Default whats with the sound in this game?

hi i have sh4 + uboat

it seems to me the sound is absolutlely useless, i thought it was my original copy corrupted so i bought the gold edition and its no different. o even did a reinstall of xp just for sh4, i must have 15 setups at least.

for instance, in the sound folder there are sounds for the crew sighing, crying and laughing, well ive killed mine, starved them of air, awarded medals and sunk endless shipping and never heard a cough, scream or laugh.

ive read the sound controller is a bit naff and doesnt always call sounds it should but it is right i never ever have heard them?? i could create a massive list of things i never hear, such as warnings of depth charges being dropped, ships on attack runs, being ttold im being pinged (yes i know i can hear the pings)

if you hear these sounds tell me what you did to hear them??

compared to sh3 the sound is pathetic.

is it really this bad or is somthing wrong??

the mods rfb tmo om and rising sun have made this game almost brilliant but the sound is driving me crazy??

i reinstalled sh3 and gwx just to check i wasnt imagining it used to be better.....and i was right unless somthings wrong?

id really appreciate knowing once and for all.

ive tried wating you tube vids to see if they hear sounds i dont but they are all awash with music tracks, pfft...if anyone knows of a link that shows the game and sounds i should hear during a attack, sinking and escape id appreciate it.
