Default Gamervision interview

What do you guys think of the interview?

This struck me:
Quote:
An easily understandable radar shows off the exact range of opponents' views
I hope this can be disabled through options/difficulty settings. Knowing how far and what your enemy can see seems a little too a kin to cheating.

Those battles, which will take place at different locations and times in the war, aim to be more meaningful thanks to an enhanced campaign. Ubisoft wants to tell a story, instead of just dropping players into u-boats and asking them to blow some stuff up. Each mission will be given context, allowing players to not only live the largest naval battles of World War II, but know why they were important. Sink an important ship, and expect the world to change, which is a bit contradictory considering the focus on historical realism. It's about balance, I suppose, since no one wants to play a simulation that punishes players for taking a difficult shot at a powerful opponent that would have changed the outcome of a battle for the better.
This part has me worried, I am hoping it will be like SH3 where I can virtually go anywhere sinking ships!

Well they already said:

While the player is still free to go as he pleases, there is no plan to include the “Monsoon boats” in the release version of SH5.
Personally, I think whether you have a real assigned grid or complete freedom should be in the realism options.

That's a sigh of relief, I was thinking that everytime you started a new career you'd virtually go through the same set of events, although realistic would become boring, in SH3 virtually nothing is repeated as the ships are mostly random!

I guess UBI just doesn't get what we realism nerds around here like about SH3+4

I.e. (at least for me) I don't want to be included in every major event during the time of my virtual career. Even not ordered to join every major event. Because this is a heavy player-centric approach that makes you feel like the game just waits for you to come along and then the action takes place around you.
I assume that many people here just want to dive into the scenario as a whole. And really feeling as being in the role of a u-boat captain means also experiencing times where nothing happens for you. And times where stuff happens but you are somewhere else and don't participate.
And that you and your crew are going your way as best as you can while the world is still turning without you. Let there be major events on the radio for example.

Just because every mission / patrol is somehow put into context, it doesn't mean every mission is major battle.

I have an idea of what maybe the devs are trying to do . They are given a summary for SH5 to make it marketable for noobs . In there wisdom they think up the FPS idea because they know that noobs like that and that will sell . They also said that SH5 will be more moddable than SH4 so giving the hardcore fans a base that they can turn SH5 into a hardcore game . Something for the noob masses . Something for the modders . Ends up being something for hardcore subsimmers . Just my opinion .

SH4 had special mission and the rest of the time you could sink whatever you wanted. So, SH5 will have a special mission such as sinking a specific ship then you can go off hunting as you see fit. Why would UBI change any of that freedom?
