Your sub is about 120 deep and is beeing damaged. The damage cannot be ignored so you have to turn off silent running in order to repair the damage. I never can decide what to next. Should I keep a low profile (1-2 knot) and repair the damage, hoping the enemy isn't listening. Or should I assume that the enemy already knows where I am (silent running is off remember) and turn the engines on full speed and make a silent turn with a lot more speed when my damage has been repaired. Any suggestions?

I use the longer repair times mod, so this is more of an issue for me. I remember being stuck at 150-160 meters with damage and flooding after a convoy attack gone wrong. 3 DD's dropping ashcans all over me. I had to turn off silent running so my crew could get the water out. I was slowly going deeper and deeper. The only thing that saved me was emergency blows when I got too deep, and listening for the DD to make an attack run. When they did, I went to flank speed and knuckled left or right to try and evade the DC's falling on my head, then went back to a dead crawl when they passed. I managed to dance around everything they threw at me.
Luckily after a couple hours of this, I had the flooding and pumps repaired and could go back silent and make my escape. It worked. My most intense SH3 experience ever.

Mookiemookie's advice is the way to go. Fix your damage and try to avoid being hit.

I guess it's a question of priorities.
If you speed up and start repairs, they'll hear you and might kill you. HOWEVER If you don't repair then you will DEFINITELY die! Seriously, containing flooding is more important to you than stealth at this point ![]() |

mookiemookie's got all his ducks in a row and gives good advice.
The only thing addable is, IF you either don't have the Realistic Repair Times Mod or, your batteries are still in good shape: Run, Repair, Twist and Turn. You can't hide while making repairs so, making a more difficult target of yourself is your only hope. Good luck. I'll bet this patrol will be remembered for a long time. |
