Easy.
Just one question:
Do you know what's every DD's radar's moving speed?

In SH3 there are more or less 18 different radar equipments. Here there are a lot of informations on several radar types used during WW2 on US warships: http://hnsa.org/doc/radar/index.htm

Radar rotation was manually tuned by the operator using a knob on the radar instrument panel. So we can just decide a general rotation speed...

I found the Type 268 was rotating at 22rpm, so almost 1 complete turn in 3 seconds.

Adding the WatchMan controller to each Radar you want to rotate
will make them turn back and forth.
Not 360 degrees continuely.
For total 360 degree continuous you'll need to
do a keyframe animation for each.

S3D will allow you to do both.

You can add a generic axis rotation controller in S3D (or a random one if you prefer) in many cases, no need for keyframes.

I did that for all the japanese radars (that rotate) in the RIJN mod.

@tater

That controller is in SH4 but not in SH3.
Only a keyframe or watchman controller is available for this purpose in SH3.

The radars you see on the ships are static models.
Those would need the keyframe or watchman stuff added to get movement.

S3D will allow you to do everything you need.

Others can guide you on S3D useage.

I'm still Old School and use a Hex Editor.
It's easier for me.
But S3D is a very nice Tool for many.
I highly recommend it.

okay, so let say NDD_Type34.dat

I see in the node 204 the radar modelled. What and where I have to add to move it?

I saw in other kinds of DDs the radar antennas were keep into containers.. so they don't need moving!

thanks !

Look at the NSS_UBoat14.dat in GWX
That will show you how the watchman controller was
applied to the crew on deck.

For examples of the keyframe?
Look at any aircraft dat file.
look at the fake_helix stuff.

Maybe you should try Living SH3. Rowi did moving radars for several ships. Until now f.e. the Bouge-Class carrier. In next release he will bring this feature to DD.
Best regards
