Default Turkey Time

Okay, so this year we're hosting a family Christmas gathering at our house. Considering I feel I got jipped on not having an actual Thanksgiving turkey this year (we had to eat a her grandmother's retirement home, wasn't bad really, but still - just sayin'), I've insisted on roasting a bird for the dinner.

I do about 95% of the cooking here, as the wife is not so good in the kitchen. Conversely, I'm pretty damned good in the kitchen. Yet, in all my years, I've never roasted a turkey.

Any suggestions?

Don't undercook it and make your own sage and onion stuffing.

Should be able to find a good recipe on the net.

I myaself am cooking lamb and pork. Had enough turkey so far.

Yeah, feed 'em MRE's for one Christmas and they won't care if you cook a sparrow for the next one

The only advice I have that might be useful is that turkey can be fried as well, and I'm told that it's quite good. Good luck with your endeavor, though

Get youself one of those turkey deep fryer get ups and make sure you overfill it with oil and use a frozen turkey. Make sure the flames are turned up to maximum and do this in a cluttered garage.....Naw, only if you are redneck, otherwise 350 in the oven, 45 minutes per pound. Keep it covered in a roasting pan and the last 45 minutes uncover it to brown it. use a nice seasoning rub before you send it on its final destination.

Just ensure you take it's feathers off first

I always fancied a three legged one but they were always to fast for me to catch

And remove the giblets and gizzards and innards from the cavity before you cook it.

Myself and Herself baked turkey legs on Monday night, before heading off to our respective families. 90 minutes in the oven with a red wine & onion sauce, serve with sage & onion stuffing, roast potatoes, and ham. Homemade mince pies to follow

I have yet to cook a full bird, mind. A tad daunting. My rule is that I'll cook anything smaller than my own head.

And you don't even need lights to see to carve it
