Wow, you must be a ballsy one, taking the Channel!

Anyway, the lack of ships is clearly your fault, you're not aggressive enough?!

The stormy weather was very helpfull . And the fact that it's only 1940. I do plan to return around UK.

That's my usual hunting ground . But this time I'm patrolling the place for days, and nothing. I did the same with the SW approach (BE36/39), with the same result. I guess I'm out of luck this time.

I'll continue my patrol while the fuel permits...

are you sure to do regular hydrophone checks? the ships are probably there but with bad weather and all, the watch crew may need a hand

or perhaps the English are so scared of a Channel-runner that they halted all merchant traffic on the Atlantic

Yep, I do regular hydrophones checks, every 2 hours (more or less). Most of the time I man the station personaly.
Regarding the weather, I had my share of storms, but also had some fine weather, with unlimited visibility.

If that's the case, next time I'll go around Greenland.

Use the compass to draw a circle 18km across.
Drag the compass until the circle you've drawn fills the western end of the Gibraltar channel.
Put your sub in the middle of the circle at periscope depth.
Wait for contact.
Sink contact.
Repeat until torpedoes and deck gun ammo gone.
Rearm at Thalia (or home base if Thalia not deployed).
Repeat.

Good tip

Well, my luck finaly changed. It started with a disaster - my saved game was corrupted (although I saved away from land or ships :hmm.
I reloaded a previous save (5-6 days game time earlier), and detected a small French convoy; Large Merchant and Medium Cargo, escorted by Armed Trawler.

I stayed on surface and sank both merchants. As I was leaving the scene, I enjoyed watching the Trawler's futile attempts to locate me with the searchlight...
