Default Bright white smoke of diesel engine in night

I am now playing NYGM 3.0 but I guess all other diesel engine smoke has same problem. I guess that is because the particle material or texture has been set to self-illulminate.

It should be light orange caused by the reflection from the burning of the diesel fuel.

The smoke, if anything, should be less visable at nite.
All my heavy equipment is desiel.
And it does not look like that at night!!
It may be the Alpha channel on the material used?

I only started the mod.
Others took over may have missed some things.

The diesel smoke from the U-boat can be only one colour.

If the smoke is dark, everyone complains it is too visible in the daylight.
If the smoke is light, people have started to complain that it is too visible at night!
If you don't provide any exhaust smoke, people complain that they want it!

The rule is: 'You can't please all the people all the time.'

I 've only seen a picture a diesel locomotive have fire on smoke rarely. I don't think it will occur on a ship and of course this picture is not about fire.

It's not about color. You can see the water particle at u-boat head is dark at night and white in the daylight. The water particle is illuminated by surrounding light, but this smoke particle seems illuminate by itself. What I mean is it has been set to a attribute type used for display a lamp or something like that. ( Self-illulminate in 3D render not mean light source, light source can illuminate other object, Self-illulminate just always have same bright ignore surrounding light)

pssst!
particles.dat -> bitmap particle properties -> GlobalColorScale
It determines how much of the particle colour is "overriden" by lighting conditions - set it to 1 and it'll fix this problem (without changing the way the particle looks during the daytime)

Another possibility:
don't put too much phosphoric additives into your diesel fuel...

I regret it is not so simple (but many thanks for the suggestion anyway, OLC).

NYGM uses Racerboy's exhaust mod for U-boats. This mod does not alter the file particles.dat, and, to the best of my knowledge, it does not use this file either.
The exhaust mod alters the submarine.val files, and appears to contain its own 'fast particle generator'.

I have examined the .val file for the IID U-boat, which is the simplest. The 'globalcolorscale' for all four fast particle generators is set to 1.0. I would guess that the real problem lies with the replacement bitmaps of reduced smoke, which I created myself and which were designed to reduce the highly visible black smoke of the originals.

The smoke has no effect on game play, which has always been NYGM's main concern.
Really, I have some simple advice for those who criticise the exhaust smoke from NYGM U-boats, which were added by popular request:
"If you don't want to see, don't look!" (Brandenburger motto).

Stiebler.

You are right... correct, but it looks nice ! Dont worry too much for realism, just a good look is inmportant too.

I made a mod many time ago, Gun FX, wich includes new tracer shells.. i made it specially to aim so far with your deck gun, it works nice at night, you can see the shells so impresive, but at day... you can see the shells so far too, but the shells looks weird...

There is some diference at asome place with the sight at night and day, may be the day fog... may be the alpha channels, i was not able to discover.

Now the situation has changed. It's now nVidia who have problems.

However only the newest generation is concerned.
