Is there a mod to change the way the target view and alignment lines can be viewed at night? What I mean is is there a mod that changes the black markings to either green, yellow or any color that can seen at night time?

Unfortunatley there is no fix all mod...if they make it good for nite vision it is unviewable during the day. Does not appear as there is a way with the current coding to make it changable, it is either one or the other.

is there any way to change to colors to be visibily seen in both day and night time by editing a .dat file? And if so... what file would it be found under?

Fact interjection: periscopes were almost useless at night anyway. The night surface attack was the most common.

Very true Steve...unfortunatley in SH4 that is pretty impossible to do unless it is bad weather or very long range.

Also true. This actually worked way back in SH1, though the periscopes were also quite good at night in that one.

If you happen to be using TMO 1.9 I find the Night Scope (Observation Scope) works very well.

Agree....surprised no one has "modded" this, or have they? I have only been able to do one surface attack and then I couldnt see the pointy end of my sub. Any other time you get spotted at silly ranges ![]() |

I've had lighter periscope Telemeter marks for quite some time with the Ship Centered, Accuracy Fix mods, And with the MaxOptics IV mods (although the latest mod for RFB 2.0 may have the best and brightest Telemeter marks). I probably need to revise the stock MaxOptics IV mod to include the scope view the "MaxOptics IV for RFB 2.0" has.
The basic tool our subs used for night attacks was indeed the TBT while on the surface. It had the capability of lighting the Telemeter marks for this purpose. Unfortunately, the stock game doesn't allow this feature for the American side of play (except for the compass heading at the top of the scope). The German side does have this capability (just a left over from SH3). Our only help is to have the Telemeter marks lightened which makes the marks lighter during the day. I'd like to point out I'm working on correcting the scope views so an accurate reading of the Telemeter marks will provide correct range and target length measurements. It's something that's long over due with the game, much like finding the stated mast heights were so wrong on many of the ships (only a close shot could possible get a hit). Take for instance the Hiryu, when the game first came out the mast height read 20 meters. If you used manual targeting, at a distance of 1500 yards (the normal distance many captains used for starting their torpedo firing) the Stadimeter found range was 500 yards too short using the 20 meter mast height. It's just a good thing firing at close range eliminates the need for accuracy (gut shots never miss, ever see the Lee Harvey Oswald shooting)!! Anyway, the optics need to be calibrated so you get a 32 degree field of view and, 1 degree of angle gives you 52.3 feet of length at 1000 yards. When I'm done with my testing that's what we'll have. The scopes I've put into the MaxOptics for RFB will be the ones calibrated as such.
