Subsim member and writer Grant "Pioneer" Madden has won first place in the latest "Chicken Soup for the Soul" writing competition. Grant's story "Just Like a Real Mother" deals with the struggles of a single father, and will appear in the next installment of the series, "Chicken Soup for the Divorced Soul" to be released 7 October 2008.

An Australian immigrant to the United States, he arrived in California in 2005 and began writing with computer game company Tesseraction Games. Previous publications of his have appeared in international magazines Australian Sailing, Nautical News, Catamaran and Board Sailor, and in several Australian daily newspapers.

He stated he was honored with the accolade, and attributes his success to his wife Suzi, testimony that he believes supports the notion of 'life after divorce'.

"Behind every accomplished man is a great woman, and maybe one other who broke him first." he light heartedly suggests.

Grant is currently the Narrative Designer at Deep Six, a forthcoming computer game that incorporates dynamic storylines. He is also the author of a novel dealing with legal immigration to the Unites States.
