Do you use a deck gun?

I wonder, how often do you use your deck gun? Is it just a last resort, or..?

Early in the war, the deck gun is my primary weapon against lonely, unarmed smaller ships (2500 tons or less). First reason is I want to save my torpedos for juicier targets, and second is fun.
I find it very pleasing blowing my tanks in close proximity to the unsuspecting ship, and sink her with the gun.
