1944 Cossaks, Schnellboote, Paratroopers

This newsreel 1944 shows an interesting collage:

1.-Cossak cavalry (Russian) fighting on the German side
2.-Schnellboote
3.-Paratroopers

If interested in Russians fighting on the German side.

search for: Vlasov, ROA, Cossak cavalry.

The fate of the Cossacks and the Cossack people before and after the war is very sad.

Betrayal of the Cossacks

It's good to see the culture flourishing in modern Russia tho.

Yes! The revival of the Cossak culture is rather amazing. When I researched the status of the Cossaks to write Kingmaker, I was impressed. I haven't looked at it for a few years, 'til about a week ago. What surprised me was to see White Army insignia on the uniforms. Their songs are openly anti Bolshevik and pro Monarchist. They talk about being the cultural bridge of present day Russia with it's past.

Any people so tightly knitt that they become a racial/ethnic group despite coming from
all over the Eastern world and only being around a few hundred years are guaranteed
to be around for a long time yet.

Any idea what the Ukrainian Jewish Cossacks did in the war?

I have only learned about them when looking at the Weekipedia about Lienz.
I have met one Jew who had served in the ROA, I believe he came from the Don Region.

Since this topic raised interest. Here is a song about the persecution and extermination of the Cossacks. Some or the words are: The Reds shot us in the fields and in the swamps.

To more or less stay on SH3 topic. There is a video on U tube about the Bismark and if you pay attention, you will see Cossacks dancing on the stern deck.

All I can say is that I am baffled by the allies' choice to side with international socialism over national socialism.
And don't give me any bs over the holocaust. Look up the word "pogrom".

WWII was a lot more complex than what people in the U.S. are generally aware of.
In France it was almost a civil war. In the Balkans it was a civil war. Yugoslavia split, Croatia rose on the Axis side. Spain sent a volunteer division to the Eastern Front (Division Azul). Millions of Russian POWs joined the ROA (Russian Army of Liberation).

The prime reason is because when England declared war on Germany, there was
little sign of Russian aggression. It was not until after the ultimatum was given to
German that Russian troops crossed the Polish border.

England was left with the real danger of a German invasion and needed every potential
ally it could get.

There was a lot of sympathy for the Bolshevik and Fascist causes in England at the time.
As in most other European countries.

Interesting that you bring that up b/c I just read a book on the fall of Berlin that discussed these units. Also mentioned Vlasov's fate. Not pleasant in the least.

By the mid to late 30s, the fascists had lost the great majority of their political support in Britain. The BUF had been completely marginalised (banning of political uniforms, Battle of Cable Street, etc.), Moseley's fortunes were taking a serious downturn, and rearmament was getting into gear. Communist sentiments remained strong though, particularly in the North and in Scotland, even throughout the war. It's important to remember that even amongst the British fascists there were a large number who still hated the Nazis or, more accurately, Germans in general. In all, fascist numbers in Britain, even at their peak, were tiny. America had many urban areas which were strongly for the Nazis - whole wards in Chicago were pro-Hitler. Things began to change though with the arrival of refugees from Germany, Austria and the Sudetenland.
