Default Back to SH III?

Hi,

Just got to the Shelands Orkneys gap on my third patrol. I'm looking at a convoy of 39 ships. Yes thirty nine ships. Three are British the rest are Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Latvian and Finnish. They are escorted by 3 British DDs. It is Feb 1940.

So far in each of my patrols I've seen convoys of 'Neutral' ships escorted by British warships. It was an Irish one in my last patrol! I cannot for the life of me see how this can be called realistic. Add to that the range and accuracy of sonar, which every escort I've met so far, has been equiped with makes me question the realism of the game. DCs wich are more accurate than those in SH II. I don't remember it being like this in the basic SH III.

I'm seriously tempted to roll back to the original game.

If your perception of realism is the original game then fair enough

If vanilla SH3 was realistic, then Germany would have won the battle of the Atlantic by mid/late 1940. :rotfl:

Hi,

I have got GWX 2.1 with the 16k atmosphere mod. Nothing else.

What I was suggesting is that in terms of realism I never came accross Neutral convoys in SH III. OK so the DDs were just the same, deadly accurate from about 5000yds out just like SH II. See my other post 'How did he do that'

As I am only on my 3rd patrol there is probably a lot of things about GWX that I haven't come accross yet But so far it all seems just like eye candy. (That heresy will get me a court martial and keelhauling).

Incidently I was amused when leaving Willhemshaven to see that Tirpitz had lost all her turrets, Probably having a refit, or were they going to be offered as a mod to the VIIb?

To All the Above Poster's.

His post is so vague we don't even know if he's playing SH-3 with the latest Patch 1.4.

This hit & run posting with no info is a pain in the A$$.:rotfl:

This is a waste of time without more info.

Please give us more info Phobus.

Hi Jimbuna and Kodaita,

I should have to agree with both of you that SH III is not totally realistic and as I say I am only just into my third patrol but to find such a prevalence of 'Neutral convoys' is something that, as far as I am aware, never happened. I am not going to say that there may not have been an occasion when a neutral ship may have sailed in convoy but the convoys were essentially allied. Certainly the Irish never sailed in convoys made up of Irish ships, and in the sighting in my second patrol they did not have any escorts, and in the present incident 3 British out of 39 ships is somewhat unusual, and moreover to have a British escort!

Anyway I've had my moan, and unlike here at home, I won't get beaten over the head, and as always there will always be help and advice here. And GWX does look good dosn't it? Now for a beer, put on my old steel helmet and wait for the shooting to start.

Fierwall, my sincere applologies to you and the other posters.

I thought that everyone was now using GWX. However!

I have SH III installed and patched to 1.4 and GWX 2.1 installed with just the 16k atmosphere mod added.

Okay matey....I'm gonna take you for a genuine poster and not a baiter...I'm certainly not going to bite anyway

You state your only on your third patrol.

My advice would be to play the mod a little more and get to see what it's really about.

The Tirpitz hasn't lost it's turrets....they aint been fitted yet. Take a look at any website regarding the Tirpitz and see when they were actually fitted.

Now that's historical accuracy for ya

Well, I knew a guy who knew a guy... I mentioned that my deck gun needed a bit more bang for my buck, and now I have one of the turrets on the deck of my IIB.

It's not what you know, but who you know...

Thanks guys, I'm glad we are still on good terms!

No doubt in time I'll get used to the frustration on see all those lovely tankers going bye with their neutral flags while I get the 'Be-Jabbers' knocked out of me by the escorts. Just wait 'till after April 10th. and Wesserubung!! I''l be there waiting. Up the Furher!!

I was impressed by the detail about the Tirpitz's turrets. I presume she is fitting out. I saw Hipper too.

Ah well, back to work. "Scrape the fungus off the wurste and make me a sarnie with that green brot, Hermann".
