Despite Balz's disappointment that the onset of war interrupted his gig in England, he continued with choir practice.

We shifted from choir stations to maneuvering and dove for a sound check.
Balz listened to the hydrophone for a few minutes and said, "Nothing"
"Nothing?" Bernard asked.
"I said. nothing."
"But you didn't say nothing, Herr Kaleun. You said nothing.
"That's what I said--nothing!
"But you said nothing, Herr Kaleun. We all heard you."
"Good, because I said, nothing."

As dawn approached we had our English morning tea. The sound man announced the sound of screws.

"I hear the murmur of llovely distant screws approaching," Balz said. "Assemble the choir."
Soon he had a large freighter in the periscope's cross hairs.

We fired two torpedoes. both ran true and failed to explode.
"How am I going to be the great Teutonic hero if they issue us torprdoes ohne boom-boom?" Balz raged. "Auftauchen!"

We surfaced and ran parallel to the freighter at 8 knots. Balz wore his brand new bowler hat he had purchased in Dover.
We fired another torpedo. The sound man reported impact.
"Kein, bum-bum. Was is loss. Schweinerei!" Balz roared. "No gig, no boom-boom."
I suggested we fire another torpedo while we had a target. The sea was too rough for the deck gun.

"Observe the great Kaleun give the finger to that freighter, when I lower my finger--fire."
I sent another eel.
"Boom-boom" Balz yelled as the torpedo exploded 350 meters away. The choir sang and twirled.

"18,000 BRT for the 4th day of the war, is hoochie woochie." Balz said

With all due respect, I see this turning into a vicious cycle.

New GWX updates = New campaign = Back to 1939 = More happy times for Balz = More hoochies on Subsim = Another GWX update with even more unreliable torpedoes = New campaign = Back to 1939 = More happy times for Balz = More hoochies ...... and so on.

If we want him K'ed.I.A. then I suggest we let him advance to 1944.

Personally I'd like to see Balz being hunted by 4 destroyers with ASDIC dumping hundreds of cans all over him. He's bound to catch one of those between his teeth, and its been quite some time since we've read one of those stories.

Now that'll be fun.

Balz will never be KIA'd, as he has too much hoochie-woochie!

He's survived the end of the universe and life as he knows it (save-game failure). Balz can survive anything.

Unfortunately.:rotfl:

This is the final GWX reincarnation of Balz. In all his previous lives he's made it to 1941 and GWXed back. This time we will keep going regardless and DID as usual.

(But what we are not being told is that in the meantime, Balz had fathered a son who at this very moment is going through Submarine School.)

Great!
