Default Targetting specific sections in SH3/GWX2.1

Hello there,

i have been playing SH3 with GWX since years and it never even occured to me, that there is a way to specifically target certain sections and to see those sections in the recognition manual. so far i only used manual targetting to do that. didnt think it would be in the manual at all. now, i heard that there is a way to see the different sections in the recognition manual. my questio nis, is that true, if yes then is it only in stock sh3 (no thx) or is it in gwx 2.1 as well? would be really kind if anyone in the know, tells me about it and how to do that.

thx and Gute Jagd!

Hi!

A very long time ago there was a "vulnerability" mod, created by "Augie" and updated by "Nemesis," that highlighted the locations of ammo magazines, fuel, engines, keel, etc., for you in the recognition manual displays for stock Silent Hunter III. IIRC it was on Terrapin's UBRS site, but the site is gone so I'm not sure where you would find it. I don't think anyone ever extended it for the ships included and/or modified in GWX.

Stock and GWX . Less than 1000m target distance more then 45 degrees. Open your recognition manual and you´ll see them.

I think it´s AOB between 45 and 120 degrees and yes, under 1000m. Do not know if manuel targetting or only in automatic. Just try it in the Submarine school.

It shows : Engineroom, Fuelbunkers, Keel, Ammobunkers (if there) and Screw or..äh...pro..prä...Propulsion ( damn...do not know the word in english )

i tried it in sub school. and in a normal mission. it does not work. it must be in stock sh3. i seen it in the tutorial video that you can watch when you do the marine school. so either a later patch or gxw 2.1 disabled it. thx anyways!

As far as i remember previous threads on this topic, the weak spot highlight feature is disabled in GWX extension, at least since GWX 2.0 (don't know about earlier releases though)

This feature has been disabled in GWX, old story:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=103361
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...3/m/3211059025

However, the so-called fix was made for the previous versions of GWX, and no-one has gone through the zones.cfg file in GWX2.1 to put it back in AFAIK.
It's a long time since I messed with this, since I play/mod SH4 these days, but if you create a backup of your zones.cfg, you can open the file with notepad and look for the sections of EngineRoom and FuelBunker of each vessel type. Some of them have been put to Critical=No. Just change it to Critical=Yes. That should bring the auto-aiming back. I can't remember right now, if that was all, which is needed...

Tis not so much it been disabled as cfg files are not updated by new ships

From a ships data\Sea folder

[2DCompartments]
UnitPos=56,6,400,22
NbOfComp=4
Name1=Propulsion
Area1=58,5,30,18
Name2=Keel
Area2=164,2,187,10
Name3=Engines Room
Area3=107,13,52,18
Name4=Fuel Bunkers
Area4=161,13,30,18

The co ordinates tell the game where the compartments are on a ship as long as you are under 1000m

No new ship I have ever seen has relocated the above coordinates when moving zones
Example - in the figures above the engine room is at the stern IIRC so if a clone\remodelled ship made from that one and the engine moved amidships then the zone is in the wrong place
Ships made smaller from an original and some of those zones above will be outside the ship completely

Add to that the reworking of the zones for the GWX damage model and its become unusable
Not a bad thing IMHO
Doesnt guarantee a one torp kill
Besides tis not so often esp after 41 you get closer than 1000 m to take a shot

i agree that it should not be a one hit kill. but i would assume captains knew what zones of a ship were the most vulnerable. and they most likely tried to hit that zone with the eels or deckgun. and if the zones are at least shown in the manual, it makes it easier for me to select where to shoot. aside from near the smokeexhausts.

gute jagd!

While they probably did try to hit the best spots, especially with the gun, their manuals didn't have anything to tell them what those spots were. They didn't even have the different angle views that we have; they mostly just had a photo of each ship.
