19400605,2000, Left port at 20:00hrs, uneventful, just as well, another damn North sea patrol, this is the worse so far. AN18! hopefully a Med posting next.

1940060x,xxxx, Granville type for 3 torps! damn summer storms. Shall proceed south and lurk around BE36.

19400618.1800,What a day! Up to now only 39000 tons from bits and pieces, decided to head home via Irish Sea, got to north coast Ireland & ran into convoy, only 3 torps left at 0600 hrs!

19490618,1805,What to do? Sent contact report and kept to 10k's away, rear escort broke off and headed for us, turned south straight for it at P/D.
I don't think it expected us as we let one go at 1000 m, it broke left sharply very late and copped it midships. 2 torps left.
Headed for rear of convoy, 2nd escort came to investigate, same again, straight for it, let one off at 1000 m, it again turned late,hit it up the arse.
Run for it, 3rd Destroyer coming at us fast, kept it at 180 degrees, at 800m let one go from rear, hit it square on bow, bang, nosedived, sank instantly, no torps left and No. 4 is coming.
Dived down to 25m, 1knt at 50rpm, steered NW and sneaked out of it. At 30mins up to P/D, crikey, 5 mtb's at 180 degs. Hoping batteries last!
Managed to get away with it, had to surface at noon, batteries down to about 2% and starting to gas up, mtb's are about 5k's behind still circling.

Sorry for dissappointment, I thought I was on to something earlier.
