Somwhere off the west coast of spain

Dawn
Sept 4th 1937 U-3
As I was following course due south I followed intensly the arial battle playing out over my head. The Nationalists are giving the republicans a real beating up there. A soviet built I-16 crashed into the sea a couple hundred feet off my port bow. The watch crew yelled out a cheer at the specticle. I have the AA gun manned just incase the republicans get bold. I'm afraid they will find that this type 2 has a sting to it!

Smoke on the horizon Herr Kaleun!
Periscope depth, ahead standard. Its the republican Cruiser Libortad! We line up our angles everything is on its proper mark. Libortad is cruising into our sights at high speeds and no escort. The sea is still as if even it just wants to watch the show. Number I.....Fire! Seconds pass, Number II....fire! Number III....LOS!

Fritz stared at his stopwatch.....A minute and a half seem like eternity. Then the sound of the first hit echo's thru the hull. The crew reacts like the cork on a bottle of well shaken champaighn. The elation is loud but short as we listen for the second and third impacts......They never come.
Looking out the scope the enemy ship although wounded shrugs off our hit and continues at full steam over the horizon.

The next morning a radio report comes in. The radio operator runs into the command station and flies up the latter. Herr Kaleun urgent radio intercept! I will read it aloud for everybody. Republican Cruiser Libortad sunk within sight of port this morning by torpedo damage caused by unknown nationalist sub. Fritz though for a moment, You know we may get a medal for this?

Yea but from whom herr Kaleun? 1st officer replied, The Fuhrer or Franco!?
Bofore Fritz could repond the watchmen behind him begins screaming
Alarm! Aircraft SW closing fast! Crash dive was the order of the day as everybody slid down the ladder. Another beautifull day ruined by the Communist's.
