Nebee Need some Help.

Hi Ship Mates.
I’m a newbee to SH3 v1.4 and need some help.

1st Problem.
I am at periscope depth
Sonerman reports “No sound contact.
I click on “H” and can clearly hear contacts on bearings 049 and another on 090
I make sure that my sonerman is fully fit and ask him again. He comes back with the same answer? “No sound contact.”

2nd Problem.
Further into the mission the sonerman reports “Nearest sound contact, Merchant, moving slow, moving away, 343! Short range.
I’m on the surface but cant find the merchant through the UZO or binoculars on any bearing.

3rd Problem.
I downloaded The MOD “Racerboy's SH4 effects (and more) for SH3”
I’m told, it is JSGME ready so simply unzip to MODS folder.
I have checked and I don’t have a MODS folder in D:\SilentHunterIII.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

RAF_CAT,I think you have chosen the wrong part of the board to ask your question in.
Try asking it here:http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=182

Sailing boats will be reported by the hydrophone operator as merchants. The smaller ones are often very hard to spot.

As I understand it at the moment RB's mod package is not compatable with GWX 2.0.

Welcome aboard RAF_Cat

Your first two problems (as you call them) are common in most versions/mods of the game. There are a wide variety of variables for this behaviour. You can tweak and use whatever mod your comfortable with and the outcomes will be better in some areas, but at the expense of others.

In short, there is no hard and fast cure all.

The game engine imposes certain restrictions on nearly everything that is tweaked/modded.

My advice would be to find a compromise you feel happy with and stick with that.

Your third problem is not actually a problem........unless your playing the GWX supermod which already has JSGME included, you'll need tod/l it separately from:

http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products.html

Install the programme into your SH3 game folder, double click on the J SGME icon and it will create a MODS folder within the SH3 folder for you

Welcome aboard mate. I can help you with RB's issues alot of noobs do this mistake.

RB has his zip folder but in it are other sub folders. The one you want to copy paste as a subfolder example is,
Racerboy_SH4_Effects_for_SH3_2_03

Into to Ubisoft/Silent Hunter /MODS directory

IF you don't have the mod folder then you didn't install JSGME right? If you didn't install it check Jim message below theres the link. You'll need that.

You can hear better than AI that is normal.

If you can't see a ship is it because of heavy fog or a clear sunny day?

BUT like some others above suggested Install GWX 2.0 first to get a feel for SH3 new and improved. READ the instructions to install properly! Later when you more experiance here you can make multiple installs of SH3 1.4b and enjoy all the glory that subsim modders have to offer.

Welcome aboard this nest of ruffians!

I can answer and explain the soundman problem.

If your periscope is up and the ship in sight, the soundman will not report sound contacts. So, lower your scope and he will report the contact.

It's a geme glitch.

Sorry Linton and Steed, I would move this thread to SH3 Newbie Guide, Links and other helpful stuff. But I cant move the post, I think it needs an admin to do that?
