Default Easy pickins first mission of the war.

sept first 1939, Ignore where bdu try's to send you instead go to the German polish port of Danzig. On route I usually bag 1 or two light freighters w/ my deck gun. Then I hit danzig which is listed on the map as blue (German) but its run by poland and there are tons of Polish vessals just sitting there with no defence. Tugboats to freighters Just drive around and watch yourr tonnage climb! then head due north to the polish base 30 km away and sneak in (Watch the neutrals) And destroy the two destroyers parked there and pick off whatever you want! Just be carefull as another destroyer and asw usuallly show up but both are pretty clueless.

Next career, I'll have to try that! I also missed out on all the fun for the operations at Norway, thanks to BdU sending me in the opposite direction.

umm, I remember raiding Danzig & Hel, yes Danzig showing blue in Sept, not red with Polish vessels docked there. Maybe an error, better let GWX team know before they complete 2.1. I found ships there worthless for IIA cuz they need deck gun to be sunken, and I don't want to risk using 2 or more torpedoes to sink less than 3,000t vessels. I usually patroling between AO76 to AO94 for juicy ships like large merchants in IIA. Maybe I ought to open campagin files to see if there are more Polish routes further north across Baltic Sea to save my fuel on my next restart with IIA.

I think u can use SH3 CMDR for starting date to one or more months earlier, then u can arrive an enemy port you like and wait till fateful day.

Seth no prob Also Danzig is Correct showing blue because danzig is or at least was German but after WWI the poles got to administer the city. Technicaly It's a Free state of Germans run by the poles but I believe Germany maintained the right to dock.

Now I was about middle between hel and danzig heading to danzig after giving hel some Hell! I was depth charged and hunted all the way to port in danzig. Batterys shot, Fixing leaks, Unable to make more than 1 knot dragging myself into port on the bottom fo 20k. Now get this, I blew ballasts and as soon as i surfaced the 3 destroyers that followed me into port started to open up on me but I hit escape and Docked in danzig! WOW it was one of those nights.

In the first mission, it's important to get the 'free' 500 renown for completing your assigned patrol - that way you can score the new hydrophone and/or engine upgrades. Though maybe none of this is available in 39...

Not so; Commander starts in September. However, JScones has said the next version may let you start in August.

On the other hand, Commander does let you change your orders (you can tell BdU what to tell you to do:rotfl: ). Set your starting grid for AO95, and you will get the renown for going to Danzig...unless you're using GWX, in which case you don't get 'going to' renown anyway.

I think.

What do you mean by don't get 'going to' renown in GWX? I've never paid attention but do you not get the 500 renown for going to the patrol grid from Bdu in GWX?

My understanding is that you get renown for going to your patrol grid in GWX 2.0, but will not in GWX 2.1.

You may be right about 2.0 and 2.1; all I know is they said they thought it was silly to be rewarded for following orders.

They may be right. It doesn't matter to me; I always spend my patrol where I'm sent. If I don't see a single ship there, well, that happened to a lot of real kaluens too.

Indeed.

And even if the grid you're sent to patrol is empty, just set your route to go through places where is surely ships to sink (Like visiting the Scapa flow, or going thro the Irland-Brit channel), while your on your way to that damned grid.

On the patrol I'm on now (GWX2.0) the F8 window never changed to having reached the grid nor the 24 hrs accomplished.
