Ich hab' ein kleines Problem!

I thought this vanilla SH3 problem had been sorted out, namely that (in German, at least;I have never played the game in English) "ahead slow" is called "one-third ahead", "half-speed" is "full speed" etc: in other words, after "dead slow" (kleine Fahrt), the speeds are one degree less than as marked on the telegraph.

Furthermore, I only noticed today that "Äußerste Fahrt voraus" ("full speed ahead" but called "full ahead flank" by Americans) brings my telegraph to "Stopp". This does not happen when telegraphing orders astern.

I am sure that I have played GWX2.0 before without this problem.

I have recently added OLC's wonderful manual targetting mod.

Is this an unremediable problem or is there something that can be one about it?

I know the German and English versions are somewhat different. But bringing the telegraph to stop when asking for ahead flank seems strange.

Do you use SHIII-Commander with 'malfunctions and sabotage' activated.

The sabotage function on SH3 Commander could be the culprit: I checked that option only the other day.

I shall have a look now if unchecking this option solves the problem.

I only noticed this morning that my "Äußerste Fahrt voraus" telegraph resulted in "Stopp" as I was honing my manual targetting skills whilst using OLC's manual targetting mod: my target prey started inexplicably to distance itself from me. It was then that I noticed that my telegraph was on "stopp".

I am sure that this telegraph glitch present in the vanilla SH3 was fixed by the first GWX mod.

Must be sabotage!

Probably a former KPD (Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands) member who works in Wilhelmshaven docks is responsible for this malfunction.

SH3 commander is the culprit.... the program is simulating a problem with the engine or telegraph or both.

also be on the lookout for fuel leaks, periscope optic failures (constant blurry image), various speeds not working and several other nasties

Adjusted "Malfunctions + Sabotage" function in SH3 Commander: no effect.

The German telegraph commands on the telegraph icon read as follows:

1. stopp,

2. kleine Fahrt,

3. langsame Fahrt,

4. halbe Fahrt,

5. große Fahrt,

6. äußerste Kraft;

these would be equivalent in English to:

1. stop,

2. dead slow,

3. slow,

4. half,

5. full.

6. flank.

However, in reply to the above telegraph commands, the helmsman states in German that which would be in English as follows:

1. All machines stopped!

2. Slow ahead!

3. One third ahead!

4. Ahead standard!

5. Full ahead!

6. Ahead flank.


Of late, my helmsman's response to command 6 notwithstanding ("Wahnsinnige Kraft voraus!" - literally: "Crazy power forwards!"), my telegraph needle goes to "stopp" and the boat responds by closing down all machines.

This does not happen with the astern commands.

Furthermore, at the beginning of my last two missions, one out of Wilhelmshaven the other out of Kiel, in the latter a trampsteamer rammed a wharf and exploded, whilst in the former my escort, having escorted me into the sound, returned to Wilhelmshaven where it made a Kamikaze run at wharf and thereupon exploded.

Perhaps this could be a result of all the mods that I have recently added. I have a suspicion that Racerboy's exhaust mods may be to blame: they produce no exhaust effect on my boats and seem to leave files scattered all around my SH3 file, even though I have used the Jones tool to install them.

You could be right, GoldenRivet: I also have the symptoms that you have mentioned above, most noticeably with the optics.

I shall "de-mod" and report.

Ok... all of that aside i think the changes you made in SH3 Commander wont take effect until you either perform a roll back or you start a new patrol.

as a general rul the more mods you have in your little SH3 garden... the more cross pollination occurs. this can eventually cause unexpected consequences.

try to pick just a few of your favorite mods and stick to them.

Just done what you advised: pruned the mods garden and opted for no malfunctions/sabotage in SH3 Commander. The boat responds to the telegraph orders now and there are no ships running amok around Wilhelmshaven.

Outward bound now for the Norfolk and Suffolk coasts, hopefully to wreak havok with coastal shipping there.
