I know there's got to be a thread about this, but I was unable to find it via Search.
It's early-mid March 1942 and I'm in Bungo Straits. On two separate occasions I've found and sunk merchants ships. On both occassions there was no "She's going down, Sir!" or record of it in my Log. Not sure if it matter but the first one was a Larger Modern Composite Freighter and the second one was a Medium Old Tanker. It hurts wasting precious fish on targets that I'm apparently not worthy enough to be credited for. ![]() Mods: REL_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_15B RSRDC_TMOv15_V371 SS201 USS Triton_Suicide_Charlie_Tambor Foobar

I can't help you with it, but I had something more insolent.
Small convoy next to Malta, Escort sunk, two of three ships sunk, two torpedoes fired for the third ship, having a look at the map, ship is away. Simply spawned away. ![]()

This happens in both SH3/4. It is very frustrating. I do not know if anyone found the root cause or not.

The frustrating part is I think that if I attack any ship on this patrol then it'll keep doing this. So far I have about 12,000 tons unrecorded. I'm not sure if I've been able to progress past the second patrol in any of my SH4 campaigns due to bugs, CTD's, or updates.

Were the sinkings in the same general place
Sink another ship before those 2 in the same area ? SH4 is nearly completely all RaNDom layers With random entries a ship is set to spawn every so many hours Sink a ship from RND group* and you get credit move away from that zone and the game will spawn that first unit again When you sink it second time = no credit as the game knows you have sunk it once already Similary with convoys Take out most of the escorts and then move out of rendering range Move back into rendering range and viola all the escorts are back Only this time you will usually not get credit for sinking them At least thats how it was in SH3 and nothing I have seen so far seems different in SH4 Of course if the ships were hundreds of KM apart and in different directions its unlikely from the same group and you may just be unlucky with an SH* bug |

I never noticed the whole render range thing. I've run parallel to task forces and convoys just outside of visual range, but then again I almost never attack escorts.

Works with merchants too as well as escorts
Once outside the render range the group just runs in the virtual background When you reaquire the convoy the game renders it as new If they were going in the opposite direction chances are it was a different group and you were just victim of one of the SH* bugs A PITA but happens Unfortunately not very often Nothing worse than sinking a couple of large tonnage units not to get reward for it |

No kidding. I'm just kind of keeping those two logged mentally.
I've also noted that the Auxilary Gunboat has a weird damage model. Putting a torpedo into her produced just a scorch mark. A second fish into her caused her simply to disappear before my eyes.
