Default Just 2 quickies from a new starter

finally finished the academy - enjoyed very much.

I have started my first patrol - literally, just started - its my first time so im sailing in real time out of kiel inspecting all the shipping and building with my binoculars - very immersive and cool, sad i know!!

Anyway, i have plotted my course to AM24 right round the top of Denmark and past Norway and then i saw the Kiel Canal - can i sail down here? is there any hidden danger?

And, when my Weapons Officer fires a torpedo for me, does he aim anywhere in particular on the ship (weak spots) or just at the ship in general, and count yourself lucky for the help?!

thanks in advance

Welcome to the war!

You may want to visit my website for a lot of useful information. If you are playing GWX, the GWX manual is a must read.

Good luck

As soon as you have brought up your 'Kiel Out' plotted course, be sure to click on the right hand command 'Follow Waypoint'

You need to be in the sub pen before you enable the waypoints.

Conversely, you need to be on the marked spot at the other end of the canal before you enable the Kiel in option.

Ofcourse! Yes there are a number of dangers along the way. Going Kiel Out you can relax as the waypoints can be relied on (as long as you use the button before you moved). I personally never managed to get reliable waypoints while being on the 'Kiel In' point. (they seemed to get rotated) So I just plot them myself. It isn't that big a task. But you should try to stay in the middle of the kanal. There are plenty (stationnary?) ships along the way and bridge pilars you can run into, and also some harbors with piers/docks sticking out. You need to be carefull on the way back. On one occasion I heard a horrible sound of something crashing when I had time compression up. Next thing I notice is the 'Uboot lost' screen. I found it quite embaressing getting sunk inside the homeland. I don't know if it was a ship in the way or if I got too close to the edge.

The trick with the "Kiel in" point is not to have your boat on that point but to have your plotted course end exactly on it, no matter where you are at the time, if you press the course Kiel canal IN your navigator will plot it from your last waypoint on the Kiel Canal Inbound Point to the subpen in Kiel, never fails me

If you already moved you can still use the kiel out.

1 set a new way point, precisely in the U-boat pen.
2 click Kiel out.

Then delete the way point in the sub pen and any other with interfere with your desired course

The canal is cool as long as you keep bernard in chains and you have lots of time on your hands. I can take the northern route and be halfway to my patrol grid before i ever get out of the canal on my computer room clock :hmm:

In reality the canal was much shorter, and much faster. If it seems slow to you, just use Commander and set you're "When Near Land" TC for 128, or whatever suits you.

Cool, didn't know it was all plotted based on the last waypoint. Got to check this out. Thanks

If you use SH3commander you can set the TC for land proximity to 128 or whatever

Also you can adjust the main.cfg in data\Cfg and MyDocuments\SH3\Cfg
