Default Shake down

I was recently thinking, whilst patrolling (it was a long patrol) that on my next career startin sep. 39 in Kiel, I'll give my U-boat a few shake down patrols (1 or 2) in the Baltic sea. My thinking with this, is that it will; (1)give a chance to have a few "easy" patrols, and; (2) when I go into the North sea/Atlantic I will have a improved crew which should improve my survival chances.

Anyone else thinking of doing this/already done this?

Sort of simulating some training, that's cool!

Thats my thinking, just making the game seem that bit more realistic.

What do you mean 'shake down' patrols? This sounds like a good idea!

Great idea ! , i always spend my first couple of days transitting to my patrol area carrying out drills:- crash dives, evasion drills and a deep dive trial etc, but ive always thought wouldnt it be great if the naval academy was included after you were assigned to a new boat, so you and your new crew could work up and train before being assigned to a front line flotilla.

I generally do this with every career I start ...

I go out and tour the harbour and run a few sea trials close to port then return to base ...

By running a short harbor tour and close in sea trials this improves the quality of the entire crew as each man is credited with one patrol. It also allows me to give a specialty to one of the petty officers or a officer after the patrol is over .

And like stated it makes it more realistic to me anyway's

Likewise, I do 2 "harbour" patrols before going into combat, then do an additional training patrol. It saves a lot of headaches one has with a green crew.

The real question is how deep you'll dare to take her.
A badge is one thing - to have lived through the creaking and banging of a metal hull at the very greatest of depths, now that carves a sailor out of you!

But don't you lose renown and get reprimanded for not going to your assigned patrol area ?

Quick question:

What effect, if any, does running 'shake-down cruises' have when you're running SH3Commander with the realistic career length option enabled?

I thought I read somewhere that Gotenhafen IS the harbor for Danzig, and the game has it all wrong.

Or maybe I should stop reading. Or at least thinking.

I think.

If you change the home port to Gotenhafen then you get to dock at Gotenhafen
Most odd
