Default Strange happenings off Afrika!

For my 11th patrol with U47 I got EK78 as the grid. Hmm, okay I thought 'I'll just go with it'.

After a long trip down I sank a small merchant with the deck gun and continued my patrol. I started getting reports of a warship near the coast. Looking at the map, it seemed to spawn (or leave dock) again and again, see below (spawning just behind the islands and heading down past Freetown):

Needless to say I didn't head over to investigate!

Next thing I notice is my heading, which shows under the dial as 0 even though I'm heading roughly 240 towards a convoy someone just radioed in.

Also, what happened to the small merchant. I got the 'she's going down' but there's no red wreck.

Now all of this was pretty much 'Oh well, that's odd!' and no more. Until I had to save and reload a day later, at which point I got my first ever CTD while the 'Not so long ago' screen was up!

This is with GWX and SH3Cmdr, date is February 1941.

Anyone care to comment on whether the odd things caused my CTD, if I can recover the postion, or whether I should go back to the previous save (in port) and start my long trip again?

The Zero under your heading is your rudder angle, so you can see how far you have your rudder over and in which direction (port or starbord)

For the other things I'm not sure, are you sure the small merchant was the enemy?

The CTD happens now and again, but others may not why it happend this time.

At least one of your questions has been answered

Thanks bookworm_020, forgetting my basics there. But as for the others...

Oh and yes the merchant was enemy, I got a nice cheer from my crew to confirm it but I had already checked out the flag.

LOL.

It's a single ship being reported too often.

It's fixed for 1.04.

Thanks danlisa.

I thought it was a single ship but wasn't sure whether multiple reports were at fault or whether it was erroneously spawning repeatedly. Watching it, it looked like it continued spawning every 30 seconds or so until I gave up watching and went after the convoy. So it's fixed anyway

So do you think that my CTD was nothing to do with this?

Had me hunting for days, that one.

But I got my revenge, raiding the harbour.

Your CTD sounds like a different issue
Personally, I'd go back to a previous save point

Hi jimbuna, thanks and roger that (so to speak).

It's back to port for me then. I suppose I could always take the opportunity to assign myself a different grid. Feb 1941 seems a good time to be off Ireland as I was swamped by convoys there during my 10th patrol...

This is "normal", I get this every so often and it hasn't caused a CTD on the next load of the patrol after saving.

I frequently don't get the wreck symbol, but it is added normally to the log

BBW, I have MS Visual Studio 2005 on my PC, so all I got was an exception error message and a 'would you like to use VS2005 debugger' question. You get the choice to answer yes which closes down the debugger and obviously SH3 as well (great!) or no, which leaves you in exactly the same place (just as fantastic!).

EDIT: Just tried again and I did get an error code out of the debugger. It gave error code 3324. Very informative!

Thanks for the comments on the wreck, yes I think I've had a few which made it to the log but didn't show on the map. I also had a grey wreck the other night which I'd hit with only one torpedo but I still got the full (enemy) tonnage in the log. Which was nice...

Anyway, about to give my save one more go, otherwise it's back to Lorient.

Okay, at the risk of replying to myself , a small update.

Reloaded at Lorient, headed back down to Afrika. Sank two large cargos on the way, in foul weather - heavy precipation and fog, in the dark, which was great fun. Got to EK78, observed the same muiltiple spawn / reporting going on (with a new report every 7.5 hours or so, went on for several days until there were at least 15 contacts showing!). Now headed back North slightly feeling happier than I was.

Cheers for the comments and advice.
