Default 1st Campaign

Started my 1st campaign out of Pearl. I have to go to Japan(Honshu?) so I figure I better stop a Midway to top my fuel tanks. That's a LONG cruise, used time compression alot. So I stopped and topped fuel and head out. Tick Tock Tick Tock, lucky I put some music for the gramaphone on. So I get out to the mark on my map about 11:00/midnight and get a message to sink merchants, alrighty then. Start to head towards Kobe but changed my mind, went along coast heading East. Another message, base changed to Java(better watch my fuel) Get a couple of contacts, Nice a medium Composite Freighter and a small one. I position myself to get a 90 degree shot and wait for them. Periscope depth, about 6:00am, do my calculations on the first one(bigger one) and wait about 7 mins. Fire 1&2 about 10 secs. apart. Both hit and freighter starts to explode. Sweet. Line up on smaller one and fire 3&4.... both miss(little boogers quick) so I did a emergency surface and nailed'em with my deck gun, took 6 shots at waterline but I got him. I figure I'll cruise north a bit them head south towards Hong Kong looking for targets. The only thing I didn't care for was the LONG trip from Pearl, but now it's getting real interesting.

That transit is a bit much. Perhaps the new patch will address this. Funny how the action makes one forget the duldrums of the transit

I usually listen to Jack Benny, Superman, CBS News, some good music and just crack open a beer and ride! ROW makes the long trip easier.

I put on some Audioslave, Lynryd Skynyrd, Led Zepplin, Metallica, Megadeth, ya know just some easy listening. Bummer, they won't work. Is there some way I can put in my music into the gramaphone file and get them too work, gotta turn up the stereo kinda loud to hear because I wear headphones for the game.

Are they a .wav or .ogg file? I play the sound track to Gladiator and I had to have them converted to .ogg.

The gramaphone/radio doesn't play mp3 files. Just convert them to wav and ogg files and you can play them fine.
Just put them in the data/sound/gramaphone

EDIT/UPDATE: I accidently turned this around. The mp3's work fine, its the wav that doesn't work.

How do I convert them? Do I need some special program? And if I do, where would I get it?

I have mostly mp3 files in my gramophone and they play fine. There are probably other standards (parameters) that have to be met such as sample rate and bit rate, but I'm not sure what the minimum/maximum levels are yet. Every now and then I search the forums to see if anyone has discovered what limitations the developers actually programmed into the gramophone . . . maybe I'll think to e-mail the devs some time and ask them.

Most basic .wav -> .mp3 conversion programs give you default levels like 128kbps (bit rate), 44.1 KHz(sample rate - often simply listed as 44 KHz), and 16 bit resolution. These seem to work in the gramophone. Alot of my own conversions are at a sample rate of 192 kbps and that works fine, too. I'm not sure, but I believe that the gramophone will play both stereo and mono files as well.

Oh, and as was already mentioned, .ogg works. I've not tried .wav files yet, so I don't know if they work.

That base change only applies if you start out of Manilla.

On SH III, I had 'Immigrant Song' in the music folder to listen to when I was sent into cold northern waters.

Need something more summery for SH IV though....
