Default What is this?

Hello

Well I have done a patrol in my new career and after starting my 2nd patrol I seem to have gained a new deck, was wondering what it is, I have put a red box around it. It kind of looks like a glass window or something from certain angles and now I can not see my chief watchman due to a big metal part blocking my view. All help welcome, many thanks.

ORioN.

What did you purchase with your renown? Maybe accidently?

Some sort of antennea it looks like.

Default Hmmmmm......

Looks more like a gallows. Did you do something really wrong that we need to know about?

I can honestly say I have not seen that structure. Did you use your renown for an upgrade?

Default I don't have a clue what that thing is,

but I wouldn't recommend sticking your head in there to find out!

I think you will find that it is the periscope shears, but with the outer casing removed. Its a conning tower upgrade/refit, something which I never ever get! After hundreds plus hours on the game I still have yet to have one.

Seriously thinking of jacking the whole thing in and going back to playing FEAR and Total war all day instead!

Sorry for the little outburst there but just had to get the conning tower thing off my chest!

I have seen a picture of this apparatus in several references. I know it is in Squadron and Signals U.S. Submarines. If memory serves it is a radio antenna. Unfortunately I don't have any of my references available.

It kind of looks like a DF loop antenna

like the one in this page of Gato Class submarines in action

Yes it does look allot like that, I wonder what it does that I couldnt do before though, maybe its just a visual upgrade, I do prefer it without this though as it looks plain ugly and has a big metal arm sticking out right into my Chief Watchmans face.

Thanks for the info if you find out anymore please let me know.

That metal arm is part of the mount for the surface search radar. You should be able to get it, if you have the renown, after your patrol is over.

You should be getting a new conning tower in early-mid '43 anyways as that's the early war model, if I remember right. Depending on the year, I wouldn't worry too much.

This is a bit close to what we see in game.

Good research guys. When I finally get this upgrade I'll know what I'm looking at.
