I noticed that it takes me 30~40 minutes IRL just to get through the canal because the max time compression is 4.

If your using SH3 Commander you can alter the time compressions for different situations.
I highly recommend it! |

i have routinely used the kiel canal, with GWX1.03 i have noticed several spots where the time compression is up to 128 without adjusting any values in SH3 commander. Just be sure and use the option to plot the "search pattern" that leads you out of the canal or into it either way your are going.
dont think so much about the real life time used, think of the fuel conserved. by not going around the horn you have extended your lethal action range further out into the western approaches. good hunting!

I am on my way back from my first patrol out of Kiel. Talk about not thinking, I went all the way around the horn and now I'm coming back with all my torps and low fuel, I'll probably be flogged.

In '39 and '40 one can still find adventure coming out of the straits.
Targets are still available if lookouts are attentive. You can even run torpedo drills on incoming German convoys, just don't birddog them, and certainly don't fire on them ! Reverie |

Started my 2nd patrol last night and ran the canal, world of difference with the fuel, bridges were kind of cool too. Really waiting for that IID to come out, that'll change everything.

I've not been able to use GWX yet, but I used to use Commander to change my 'Near Land' settings and charted my own path through the Kanal at 64x. Had lots of fun, and the actual path is much, much shorter.
