Isn't that what Blackwater is?

If think that the US MoD would benefit alot finantially from it, it's much cheaper to run a legion than to hire people from companies like Blackwater.

I know the pain.
Seriously, I only see benefits in a legion.
Economical benefits, no news about dead American soldiers in the news, etc.

How about outside of the notice of pesky reporters and those bloody "oversight" twats? The only way they'd embed a reporter with a Foreign Legion is in a rock face with a sabot round.

Colonel Hackworth brought forward that idea 25 years ago. I hate to see these talking heads stealing his ideas.

The Regular Army is never going to go for it because your are playing in their pond their toes. The absolutely last thing they want is another part of the Army.

Blackwater does not come out of the Department of Defence budget. Our military manpower is capped by law. These security outfits or whatever you want to call them is therefore a freebie. The military don't have to guard whatever and can use those people on the line. It's all a paper shuffle.

You are of course right, but what I ment was that in the end, the money comes from the same source. The money spent on Blackwater or simillar companies, could be used by the MoD for a foreign legion.

The money does not come from the same place. Also what benefit is there in an Legion? There isn't any. Our military is all volunteer. Their are a lot of foreigners in the U.S. military, it's is a fast track to citizenship. The budget for Blackwater I suspect (I don't know) comes from the Department of State. The simple answer is to just enlarge the military which is supposed to happen but I haven't heard anything about it in a while.

For the second time in this thread - isn't that what Blackwater Mercs are?

I'd be against a foreign legion. Right now our military is made up of our sons and daughters serving their country. I don't want to see our government fielding armies whose only loyalty is to their paymaster.

How about a compromise? Let the 12 million Mexicans (and others), minus children, serve 10 or maybe 15 years in return for a citizenship.
