I sailed out of St Nazaire on November 16, 1941....after patrolling my assigned grid, AM 41 in foul weather I decided to go to the US coast in order to be the first drum beater after war is declared on december 12 1941.
After lurking off the coast of the US, and waiting for december 12 to arrive I find that the US is still very neutral....after waiting for about a week I finally sink a US tanker on december 18, the symbol for the sinking is green....aaaah a neutral kill... Sick and tired of neutrals I make my way to the coast of Halifax, Canada...I find an enemy convoy with a Revenge class BB in it....I fire 4 eels and it goes down in a cloud of flames...I sunk Royal Oak ![]() Anyway, does being close to the American coast on december 12 prevent the US from entering the war...or is there something strange going on? I have patrolled the US coast many times after december 12 and it has always been hostile afaik...

You needed to wait a little bit longer, like 11 months and three weeks

Germany declared war on the US on december 11 1941, 4 days after Pearl Harbour, this is also correctly mentioned in SHIII: if you look under <F1> you can see that afer this date the US is an enemy of Germany.. The US should become enemies (and valid tonnage) instantly after this date, just like what happens to the UK and France after September 3 1939.....

Is this another bug?
Maybe friendlies and enemies are only checked by the game when the patrol starts? :hmm: Maraz |

I recently did a patrol to the US, set sail from Lorient on Dec 3, 1941. On 12 Dec the US did indeed turn hostile, and their ports turned red, so it should work even if you're mid-patrol at the moment.
Added bonus for doing an early Paukenschlag - lots of American ships steaming about with their navigation lights showing - easy pickings in the night ![]()

If you are playing GWX then be warned that all those lighted ships should be neutral, though not all neutral ships are lighted. If you are playing stock Silent Hunter III then you will not find any lighted ships at all. Pablo
