Default Targeting other parts of a ship?

I've been having a problem, or don't know exactly how to hit other parts of a ship. I looked over the shipchart which shows where the best place to hit a ship is. Basicly the engine room or fuel reserves.

My problem is, I use auto TDC, so the computer automaticly calculates where to send the torpedo. I am not good with manual targeting, at all. So that is why I use auto. Anyway, when I use auto target, the torpedo always hits the same spot, the center of the ship. I do change the depth depening on the ship of course to try and detonate the torpedo either below the ship or use impact to try and hit the critical spot.

With manual targeting, it always hits the center of the ship. So even for small or medium ships, I have to use 2-3 torpedos, a waist. I read many people succesfully using 1 to sink medium or even large ships.

How do I make the torpedo hit a little forward or back of the ship where I need it while using auto target?

Thanks

Hit L on the keyboard, so your scope isn't locked. Aim at whatever point of the ship you want to hit, (have tube door opened Q) Fire.

If you're playing stock, aim right in front og the funnel. If GWX shoot for the foremast
Good hunting

Wot Brag said! You don't have to use full manual targetting to unlock the scope. Aim the central reticle marker at any point on the ship and that is where the solution will be targetted. I tend to leave the scope aimed lightly in front of the target and let the ships movement bring it onto the sight.

On a big target this lets you fire up to 3 torps with 10 sec intervals. Don't do this if you are using salvo shots though. Always aim for the centre and use the L key cos the spread on the salvoe will mean you have at least one miss if you aim at either end of the ship rather than the middle.

No guarantees of a hit though cos the target may change course or spped between the time you fire and the time the torpedo is due to hit.

If you get in closer than 1km you should have few problems getting hits though.

AFAIK, in full auto targeting, you dont need to lock targets either. Just point the crosshairs and shoot. Computer computes the solution to your periscope heading.

Thanks for the info, and yes I am using GWX. Can't wait to try this out and finally be able to sink a small merhcant with just one torp.
