Default I just saw U-505 exhibit.

If someone would give a hint to this dumba$$, I'd be more then happy to post some of my mediocre shots. Have to say the experience was chilling. Got them on my easyshare folder. No interior though.

Welcome aboard, 1480!

There is an official website, with pictures and a virtual tour, but I'd still love to see yours, and hear your own perceptions.

I visited U-505...in 1962.

I was in quiet awe. The last time I saw it was in 1979. I'll progress with my observations as I post pics:[/IMG]

While waiting in line to get inside, one of the guides gave a background to it's new location: a 4 million dollar wing of it's own, that is a memorial to the US naval forces during WWII. In a sense, the centerpiece of a mantle or trophy case.

[/IMG]Appreciate the welcome. Little background; I bought SH3 when it first came out but was very internet "illiterate" and did not know these sites existed. Plus I got a virus that corrupted almost every god-forsaken file in my hard drive. I was not aware of the patches, mods etc that UBI and the great people here invested so much time in. Well I discovered this place when I bought and got to running SH4. Search engines are on par with sliced bread IMHO. Anyways, since I surprised my wife with "Wicked" for moms day, she bit her tongue when I suggested the museum to take our 3 y.o. out for the day. Win/win I must say.[/IMG] My bad on the repeat.

Playing a sim, you never really have a real perspective (hey I'm 100% slavic, so I tend to err alot) of dimensions till you actually see it in real life. The VII was much larger then I pictured it in my "minds eye." When I get through with posting the outside pix, I will tell you when being inside, it felt tiny. I say this because I couldn't believe the size of the "fish". I liked how they set it up for display because it looks like it's been launched from the bow:

if you are referring to the U-505 being much larger than the type VII you viewed in your minds eye - U-505 was a type IXC and would have been much larger than the VII boat most folks play in SH3

GR thanks for actually even taking time to reply to my mindless rants. Reason why I said VII, I was thumbing through "WOLFPACK" by G. Williamson and he typed it as a VII on page 261. Then I did a bit more hunting and I'm way out of my league. No wonder it threw me for a loop when I saw 2 aft torp hatches inside. Thanks for clearing that up.

Someday....

Read Hans Goebelers book on his experiences as a crew member on U-505. I guess when he was still alive he would give inpromtu tours if he was at the exhibit.
